then have edits to do, they have to all be turned in by May 1st. I hope to turn edits in by April 15th and have my Ph.D. Then you can all call me Dr. Wormwood!
How I did it: I took classes, read a lot of literature, decided on a research topic, did a pilot study, defended my proposal, did the research, wrote my dissertation, and defended my dissertation.
Lessons & tips: Persevere. It's 75% stick-to-itiveness.
Resources: Friends and family

I remember attending my grad for my under grad degree. The Phd grads were on stage about 10 of them. They looked so … worked over…lol! But you could feel the satisfaction of having completed this climb up mount everest and I knew that would have to be me. Fast forward, I’m working on it. But procrastinating. So I have set this goal, by 2010 draft has got to be done.
krishnaas im currently working in a Software Company
Hi Seadaymon,Im krishna,i have completed my Masters in Computer Science and i want to do my Ph.D.,but im confused in selecting my area in Computer Science. Can you please suggest me in selecting the area.
incredibly challenging, infinitely rewarding. The sense of accomplishment I felt upon being congratulated by my committee was indescribable!
Well now it sits on my shelf, at least one of its earlier incarnations does at least, replete with typos and mistakes, dog-eared, and riddled with curling yellow post-it notes as if slices of factory cheese exploded out from the words I wrote inside. It was not however an albatross, it was a pleasure to put together all the things I thought I knew in one place and see that really I didn’t understand much at all. I still look at it regularly. It’s like a fond family photo, keeping me company through all the long postdoc days.
I ended up taking several more classes to “beef up” for my disseration. I will take my Comprehensive Exam in the fall. This summer will be prep time!
I have been in the PhD program for 6 years, but the last 4 I had two kids, so it’s been hard to find time. I hope that by setting goals and accomplishing them little by little, I will be able to finish.
I already finished the coursework so I have to do:
book review
2 research papers
PhD Thesis
So I finished my theory of change paper for my therapy comp and I’ll defend this Friday. Baby steps to graduation . . .
The end is in sight (August 2009), but there is still a lot to do. I have to finish 3 comprehensive exams in the next month and a half, do my entire dissertation, apply for and go on internship, and complete 2 clerkships. I think that these steps are going to be their own goals on 43things, but I’m keeping the biggie since it is so important.
Today I will take my last final exam of my graduate school career. I’m nervous and excited. The course is Experimental Design. I will walk out of there having completed all of my coursework toward my Ph.D. I set the goal of earning a Ph.D. when I was 12 years old. It feels awesome to be one step closer.
