apply to graduate school

Now that I’ve finally figured out a career for myself : ) graduate is school is a necessity! My goal is to be enrolled in an MPA or Masters in Urban Studies program in Fall 2011. Things I need to do to make this possible:

1. maintain GPA this last semester
2. secure my 3 letters of recommendation
3. take GRE
4. write statement of purpose
5. complete application forms

I finally took the GMAT July 2009 after postponing for a year and a half. I turned in my two official transcripts and filled out my FAFSA form. Today, I finished my application and submitted to the University.

All I have left to do is finished revising my resume, get my two letter of recommendation and write my goal statement.

I put my application and check in the mail today. I’m assuming it will be worth it, but I reserve the right to change my mind if I don’t get in. I stressed about doing this for way too long, but I got it in before the due date without a lot of stress, as I did do things in stages and didn’t spend more than a half hour on it last night. Here’s hoping things work out…

I got the mostly final draft of my statement of intent finished today. I am going to give it final proofs tomorrow and Monday, have a few friends read it, and then send it out on Tuesday with the finished application. With even a few days to spare (but just a few).

I have about two weeks now to focus on this now that I took my spring final. the good news is that I have another friend who is working on graduate school applications, so we are going to have a coffee date this weekend together to encourage each other to finish.

Everyone agreed and seemed happy to, so now I just have to start my half of the deal (application and statement of intent)

I got my first person to agree to do the recommendation…two more to go. I have all the envelopes ready, at least.

I emailed my instructor and got the other three ready to hand out, with completed addressed envelopes for them. I suppose this stuff would take me awhile if I were doing it later…so this is some progress.

I got one ready to send out today (go me!) i have to wait a few weeks on the other one until my grade posts. I also started a rough draft of my statement of purpose. I brought in my recommendation forms, but the people I wanted to give them to were not in the office last week, so hopefully I will give them out this week at work. I’m going to email my professor and ask if he will do one for me as well. Still far behind where I wish I was (seriously, i so could have been done by now…can we say procrastinate?). And what’s sad is that the only real reason I’m probably working on this right now is because I’m avoiding studying for my final.

Application was accepted and I’ve take them up on their offer of admission. Now, I just have to convince my employer to pay for it. School should complement my other goal of reading more books! Come to think of it, this should touch off a whole now round of goals. I best get busy.
