When I was 15, I watched Moulin Rouge for the first time. I thought I was going to hate it because it’s particularly cheesy, but I fell in love with everything about it. If I could live in any time period in any place, I would choose Paris during the belle epoque at the turn of the 19th century. I said this long before I saw this movie. The somewhat re-edited version of Paris 1899 is definitely everywhere I want to be.
Anyway, so, in the movie, the red room in the elephant at the Moulin Rouge contains some of the coolest India-inspired knick-knacks Id ever seen, and a ton of red everywhere.

The room is definitely cluttery-looking in this picture. But screencaptures are always in terrible quality it seems.
The clutter isn’t what I like. I like the India-inspired, Parisian velvet, gold trim and ethnic and Japanese knick knacks everywhere… but not in a clutter-y fashion.
So I started by getting red bedsheets… there’s not really anything special about them. And then I got a burgundy-red velvet throw about a year later, a red area rug for my room at school (even though I want an oriental rug, and the burgundy flooring is a bit much), a burgundy storage seat/ottoman, 2 red decorative pillows, 1 shiny silky red pillow and 1 greenish-gold pillow with the French fleur-de-lys on it.
I have a lonnng way to go before I accomplish a ‘red room’, which will be too extreme for me in a few years, but the only way to complete my ‘red room’, or even somewhat complete it, would be to add the satin sheets, as well as a really expensive duvet I can’t afford at BB&B.
For now, my home bedroom walls are some sort of cream and pink wallpaper. It’s disgusting, but mom loves it, so I think I’ll leave it alone. At my apartment at school, my room wasn’t entirely mine, so I don’t know how they’d feel about me just slapping some color on the walls.
But who says Im not devoted to my major? My first house is getting a Red room.
