How to donate hair to Locks of Love
It made me

How I did it: My aunt passed away in 2005 from cancer. She wore a wig the last 6 months of her life. I learned about the Locks of Love and decided to do it in honor of her. I've been doing it ever since. It takes me about a year and a half to two years to get my hair 10 inches from my shoulders. I go to Great Clips and they cut my hair for free. It's an awesome experience and it makes me smile every time I leave that place.

How I did it: I did not cut my hair for 3 years. Once I was sure I had at least 10 inches, I found a hairstylist to cut my ponytail off. ummm…. where do i start ,well i got my hair cut i just haven’t sent it out yet. only because i don’t know an address to send it to where i live at least in the state.

I decided to do this about three months ago. My hair is half way down my back. I think I’ll get it cut in the end of June/beginning of July. I really can’t wait. I’m so tired of the ugly ball/bun I always pull it into.

I mentioned it when I took DIY girl and they even sent off her 5 ponytails. The receptionist totally remembered me.
We filled out the paperwork and even got to put a little note on it.
You can see how light auburn my hair used to be when I would color it. I had been doing it for 15 years and I stopped when I had DIY girl. I was surprised how dark my natural hair color was. I was also out in the sun so it would lighten up to a medium auburn anyway.

And Erin said that from the nape of my neck, where a pony tail will be formed so she can harvest my hair, I am at 6”. She needs 10” total and said that I should be able to grow the rest during the next six months.. so for the New Year, I will be able to chop my hair off and maybe even start the whole process again. Exciting!
I donated my hair today and one time in the past. I am panning on doing it again in 2 years.

When I went in to get my hair cut yesterday, my intention was to have it cut to my shoulders, but when the stylist told me if I cut just a bit more off it’d be more than enough to send to Locks of Love, I was like, “Fuck it! Cut it all off!” My hair’s a bit shorter than I normally go for, but it’ll grow out in a month or two, and it’s totally worth it to help out such a great cause.
