I’m thinking of getting the girls in my class to grow their hair out until our first class reunion ten years after we graduate in 2011. People love how long my hair is right now, which is to about my lower to mid-back, but I can’t wait til it gets even longer. I had been wanting to donate to Locks of Love since I was about 12 when my youth group would go to this big convention in Fresno. The girls would all form a heart in the middle of the convention center floor and cut the girl’s hair in front of them. It was pretty rad, and that’s where I’d want to get mine cut, but since I stopped going to the meetings I got kinda kicked out, but I’ll get there. ;]

How I did it: So, my hair grows about twice as fast as most others' (sounds great until you realize that means noon shadow on the legs EVERY DAY), so I periodically hack it off and donate it. The first time I just put it in a braid and took scissors to the nape of my neck (er, the braid at that level, anyway), but that necessitated damage control afterwards, AND I had to mail it. Meh. Much better to have your hairdresser do it!How can… Read how I did it…
Lcee09 dogs are consuming my thoughts!
How I did it: After cutting my hair short in fifth grade, I refused to get more than a trim for about four years. Finally, when my hair was down to my butt and was getting to be a pain, I cut twelve inches off and donated it. Read how I did it…
How I did it: I had cut and donated my hair four years ago, and had been growing it out for a while. Recently, I decided in the salon chair that I certainly don't need the extra ten inches, and it will just grow back anyway. So, with the hairdresser's wide eyes, she gave me a cute bob and cut four ponies from my hair to donate to Locks of Love. It was definitely very rewarding to help kids who don't have much or no hair of their own, especially kids wi… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I walked into a hair salon. I told them to cut off at least 10 inches to donate to Locks of Love. That was pretty much it. I've meant to do this for years, but my hair grows rather slowly and is prone to split ends (not to mention, been dyed pink, red, and green at various points during adolescence) so I finally just did it last week. :) Read how I did it…
How I did it: Without cutting it too often, or dying it at all, I grew my hair to my elbows. This took a few years and a lot of patience, but it was so pretty! I had always talked about donating my hair to charity, but couldn't muster the courage to actually chop it off and let go of it. Eleven inches is a lot of hair! After a few weeks of headaches and hair style frustration, I went to the hair dresser and asked her to chop it all off before I could ch… Read how I did it…

I donated several years ago and am planning to do it again. This time my daughter, age 6, and I are doing it together. I explained it to her and she’s very excited to be able to participate and help a kid in need :)
Our hair grows pretty fast, we’ve only been growing it out for a year but we should both have at least 10 inches to cut. My daughter wants to keep her long hair for Halloween (she’s going to be Princess Jasmine) so we’ll probably go get a cut together in November sometime.

Had Lance measure hair, he was grumping and freaking about measuring the whole thing, but when pulled straight it seems I have about 14 – 15 inches, and Locks of Love needs at minimum 10, so it seems a safe margin of error.
I still need to make at appt though, planned on middle of the day Friday Oct 30…
I’m doing a small bit of chickening out and self-doubting. I don’t know how I’ll look with short hair, the shortest I can remember having it is shoulder length.
virtualsprite is taking a break.
As long as I’m growing my hair out, I might as well do something with it.
My hair was finally long enough and in good enough shape to donate it last month, after waiting three years. Now I’ve donated my hair three times, making a total of 40 inches :):):)
I’m happy to be able to contribute, and I love my new hair… it requires so much less shampoo and conditioner, ha.

Well, today I got my “final” haircut… its about shoulder length. Now whenever I go to get my hair cut it will just be trims (unfortunately I tend to get dead ends easily) and to keep my bangs, aka the “mini wings” (lol long story haha) in check. I am psyched to commit to this!!
Long hair is fantastic when it’s as beautiful as mine! It’s naturally thick and wavy. It’s also got a lot of natural color. I have a lot of fun growing it out. Right now, my hair is about two inches below my shoulders. This means I’ve got about 9 inches, or 18 months, to grow it out. I donated my hair around Christmas time last year after talking about it for 6 months. Depression and anxiety set in for about a week after I got it cut. After the withdrawal period passed, I didn’t have the strength to send my hair in the mail for a few weeks after, but I felt great when I finally did. I look forward to repeating this experience and sharing my hair with someone who needs it.
