It brings me a great deal of personal satisfaction to now that Shazamela’s kids are benefiting from a gift as simple as a book . . . something that I have taken for granted all of my life. I bought 6 more books this morning for her kids . . . there are still books available if anyone else wants to have a Sunday morning dose of personal satisfaction!!!

Best Wishes for a successful school year!!!
Another 10 books on the way.
I still have not been able to make any Kiva.org loans recently due to an overwhelming increase in Kiva.org lenders which have resulted from plugs that kiva.org has gotten on the Oprah Show. All the loans are being funded as quickly as they get posted. I guess that is a good thing; however, one of my loans got paid off and I am unable at this time to reinvest the money in another loan as there are none available again as of just a few minutes ago. What’s a “philanthropic” HippieChick to do? Go check out Shazamela’s wishlist . . . that’s all she can do!!!
So, Shazamela’s Students are benefiting indirectly from the Oprah Show as well . . . sort of . . . Shazamela had a goal last year to be able to give each of her students a book to “keep”. To have a book of one’s own . . . It was my pleasure to help her reach that goal last year, I hope to be able to do the same this year!
There are still plenty of books to be purchased on her wishlist if anyone else wants to join in!!!

and there were actually “NO BUSINESS’ IN NEED”. Recently Kiva.org has had a recent surge in support ignited by viewers of the Oprah Winfrey Show, and there is currently a shortage of businesses in need of loans. Kiva.org is having trouble keeping up with the “Demand to Lend” by the public.
So, with money just burning a whole in my checkbook . . . I went over to Shazamela’s Kids Wishlist and bought a boat load of books for her kids.
Hope she doesn’t mind!

marked it complete and worth doing and checked the box where I thought it would be worth doing again. Today I am reopening this goal.
In today’s mail I received an envelope full of “Thank you” notes from Shazamela’s students for the books that I had sent them as part of this goal. These notes were not something that I was requiring or even thought I needed, but I am really glad they came as they made me know that “I HAVE TO REOPEN THIS GOAL!”
The driving force in this decision was the number of kids who stated in their notes that “They had never received a book as a gift before” I can’t even wrap my mind around that. I always received books as part of my gifts when I was a kid and I have always given my kids books as part of their gifts when they were growing up . . . my girls still like to receive books and both of the read all the time. My husband and I read all the time and we buy books all the time . . . I just can’t imagine books not being a regular fixture in one’s life and yet . . .
So today I am reopening this goal, I will keep it in front of me and hope that Shazamela continues to keep her Wishlist full at all times.
(uh Shazamela . . . . hint hint)

Shazamela is a teacher who has an Amazon Wishlist of books for her students. Many of these students come from homes where they don’t have books or money to buy books. These books have been chosen specifically for her students by Shazamela as being age and content appropriate. Her goal is that each of her students have a book by the end of the year.
There’s only seven books left to purchase on the wishlist after the three I bought today. For the price of one donation to Kiva.Org, you can buy three books for Shazamela’s students and qualify for free shipping.
The books I bought were:
Flush by Carl Hiaasen
The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
and Bucking The Sarge by Christopher Paul Curtis

Shazamela stated that she had about 55 students and I had decided that I would try and purchase enough books from her wish list to make sure that each student was able to have a book of their own to keep. I actually exceeded my goal a little, I think I got 65 books, so I guess each student can have a book of their own and there are a few left over for the classroom book shelf . . . that works!!!
I also went through 43T and looked for people who had a goal of buying something for a stranger from their Amazon Wish List and posted a comment to them and a link to Shazamela’s goal, to her wish list and to this goal, so hopefully that was (or will be) helpful.
I feel very happy for Shazamela’s students that she is in their lives. They will remember her long after they have left her classroom.
As for me, I may revisit the wish list from time to time, but right now I am going to call this one done and definitely worth it!!!
