DreamWalker5The long path to the really cool job
I’ve been wanted to work in the industry four 3 years now. My path has been long but successful so far. Half-way in University, I was studying History and Politics but I wasn’t quite happy with my choice. What I liked was creating parallel universes, and becoming a teacher wasn’t quite I wanted. So I decided to go see about different venues, and I knew I liked video games too. So I bummed in a lounge party of a major video game company and spotted a producer thanks to one of my friend who had let me sneak in. I talked with her and she was very nice. She didn’t looked to much of my poor portfolio, and asked me right away If I wanted an internship in their studios. I was amazed and I said “Yes!”. There I met my team leader who’ve I been asking tips ever since. I asked him what diploma he got to get this really cool job, and he told me he had took a more different path then others, having studying traditional animation in a small university. I applied to his university and got in… the bad surprise was that the diploma is 4 years, and I had no real knowledge of good draftsmanship or cinema.
3 years later, I’m nearly finished my degree but it’s so long ! In the meanwhile, I got to learn a lot, got 2 internship at that major company and 1 contract as a marketing artist for one of their competitor. Yet as an intern or a junior marketing artist on contract, I’ve never been able to be a real employee in the game industry ! I’m still waiting for this day.. 3rd internship is coming this summer (I’ll be a senior intern, if it exists :P) 3 years ago
