How I did it: I started writing thank-you cards for little things, big things, all kinds of things. When I felt appreciation toward a person, I made an effort to write it down. I got a lot of positive feedback from people. Read how I did it… 2 years ago

I left one of our consultants a note when she came last. I whipped it up on a break and left it for her on her chair. Then yesterday I saw a woman who had helped me with something via e-mail from the district office and I had never met her in person. I took the chance to thank her and let her know the result. 3 years ago

Need to do this more with my friends. Even a call here or there. I am not much of a phone person but I came to realize last week that not calling people puts a gulf between us.
I did tell one friend the other day he was a good person! He is helping another friend big time! 3 years ago

to people who participated in delivering a presentation with me. We did such a kick-butt job and I have been frustrated with others who haven’t been stepping up to the plate on my committee, so I figured it would be just as valuable (if not more) to keep the committed and productive people happy! They liked it, two of them commented to me about it.
I find my thank-you cards at garage sales, thrift stores, secondhand stores, and Michaels dollar bin. They have some nice ones in there right now – 8 for $1! And they are not cheapo-looking. People would never know. Cards are getting really expensive so I always stockpile when I run across good looking ones for cheap.
I may have written about this before and just got done commenting to HippyChick about this . . . it seems like some of the women I most admire are ones who also write thank you notes. I don’t know if there is something they understand about giving others their strokes, but it sure works . . . I want to be like that, too. 3 years ago

I made an earlier entry on how I wrote some thank you cards to a parent volunteer who coordinates our school’s Peace Garden. I had taken some kids out there to work one day and they were over the moon at the opportunity. So some weeks later this mom tells me that card made her feel like she wanted to keep doing it because she had been feeling kind of blah about it. Yeah! 3 years ago

Yesterday I showed one of my coworkers a little nice something a kid had written about her and it almost made her cry! I thought she would just get a smile out of it but she must have had some kind of a crappy day and that just kind of made it.
Someone took time to thank me for something and even though all it was was a reply to an e-mail it was heartfelt and made me remember this goal and how I need to work on it even more, and all the time! 3 years ago

and it’s always nice to hear when you’ve done something that’s appreciated . . . so I’d like to do that for others. 4 years ago

Why is it everyday I simply absorb the positive energy of other people? The happy singing of my teenage daughter as she primps in the morning. The sound of 11 year olds falling over with laughter as they “wrestle” the chinchilla. The dry humor of my Criminal Law professor. The unlimited pointless yet entertaining stories of the elderly bow-tied judge. The glint of a smile when his eyes meet mine and we know that we are sharing the same inside joke. The way her giggling to the point of almost wetting herself makes me giggle harder myself. The nod of recognition from the only other older student in a class full of bored younger law students. I should be more appreciative of the wonderful people that the universe uses to send me these gifts. Tomorrow, I shall start acting as a boomerang instead of a sponge. The human joy boomerang! Whatever joy comes to me from any source, I will return by way of a recognition to that person of the positive feelings that I gained by their small act. 6 years ago
