I’m going! I’m participating in a Lobby Days event with the organization Invisible Children: http://www.howitends.tv/
I’m super excited to finally check out D.C.!
How I did it: My brother lives in D.C. so when I signed up to lobby with Invisible Children, it was very simple to get a plane ticket and go. I spent most of my time in a conference center and then at Capital Hill lobbying. I absolutely loved the vibe of the city. It is the only city besides Chicago that I have looked around and thought, "I would really love to live here". I love that the museums are free and there's so much history just walking down t… Read how I did it…

How I did it: I just got back from my third trip to Washington DC. This time, I planned it as a trip for just me and my mom. I had a lot of confidence-building experiences! The first was actually doing all the research on Travelocity to find the best deal. I booked our hotel and our flights and printed out extra information like an airport map and a list of its stores/restaurants. My mom asked my advice about getting through security and onto the plane… Read how I did it…
How I did it: I went over spring break with two of my gal pals. We ended up in seven different states due to travel mishaps, but it was worth it. We flew out of MCI (Kansas City) and into BWI (Baltimore). Our biggest $$$ saver was the metra. We stayed at the Capitol Skyline hotel. It was safe, clean, and had free wi-fi! Best sites: Capitol, Monuments, Holocaust Museum, and my favorite - the Newseum. See Arlington Cemetery for the historical factor. Read how I did it…

How I did it: I bought a ticket and went. I went during the summer when it was very hot and humid, but it was still great. Next time, I want to stay longer, see more sights, especially the Smithsonian. Read how I did it…

How I did it: My lover and I planned the trip in mid November. The weather was not too cold but not too warm either. We only had 3 days... too short for all DC's attractions. We visited the Capitol building, White House, Holocaust Museum, Spy Museum, Natural History Museum, Washington Monument. And walked a lot on the streets. Read how I did it…

Jesse Guardiani is plotting his next move!
I’m in town till Saturday. Yesterday I took the Orange Line from Vienna to the Smithsonian stop and photographed the Mall: http://trevarthan.blogspot.com/2009/04/dc-at-dusk.html
I’ll have a bit of time Saturday morning to take some more photos. Where might I get the most bang for my photographic buck? I’m staying in Herndon!

When I was a kid and as an adult. I want to go again, though, so even if it’s on my “done it”, I would do it again – as long as someone else pays for it!
I have never walked so much in my life! We wandered up and down the National Mall all day seeing the sites, finally we waited at the bottom of the Washington Memorial for night to fall so we could see the sights all over again, but this time lit up!
One of the highlights for me was realising quite how large the Lincoln Memorial is, TV doesn’t do it justice! Franklin D Roosevelts’ memorial on the far side of the lake was impressive, with all his stages of ruling expressed brilliantly in sculpture and water. Well worth the walk. The most eye-opening was the Vietnam Memorial Wall, all those names listed, it puts it into perspective quite how many people gave their lives.
I also went to DC with my honor’s class in 8th grade. At night time, the monuments and other sites were breathtaking and you can’t truly experience some of the monuments until you are up close and personal, like the Lincoln memorial is so much bigger than you could ever imagine. It’s been a long time since I’ve been though, and we didn’t visit all the sites I would have liked to see, so I hope one day I can go back with family or friends.

so much fun! if you want to go, make sure to try Old Town Trolley Tours, and make sure to make a stop to see at least one of the smithsonian museums!
I’m tagging along on my mini sisters America travels to complete this. I may nag the whole time in a sisterly manner but at least she won’t have to drive all the time and I will get to see the White House!
Just got inspired by all the news coverage about Veteran’s Day to visit DC. I’ve only driven through the city, but definitely want to go and see all the museums and other sites. My son is 6 though, so kinda waiting for his attention span to get a little longer before we attempt it.
