Advance to Candidacy for my PhD

Today I turned in the paperwork on this—I am now “advanced to candidacy” in my PhD program. June 14, 2007 is the official date of the event, despite the oral exam being done yesterday. I am so glad to get this off of my list that you just can not know.

Now I am Allogenes Kolodny, M.A., M.A., M.S., ABD

I have three years to complete my PhD research and dissertation. Clock is ticking… :-)

I passed the oral exam. Finish the paperwork tomorrow! Yay!

There is an eerie calm that has overtaken me in the last hours of the evening before my proposal defense. At 1 pm tomorrow I have to start presenting my planned research project for my PhD. I have about 30 minutes to explain it, answering questions. I think it will take me 45. Then they kick me out of the room, discuss it, and (hopefully) sign the form.

In the end, no matter what happens tomorrow, I just don’t care. I have no ego bound up in this anymore. Don’t ask me why, it just went away. I am as surprised as anyone.

I have a rough draft of half of my slides. Less than one week and counting…

One week from this Wednesday! Eeeep! Eeeep!

Slides! I need slides! Er, I guess we call them Powerpoints now.

Fecking MATLAB license server!!!!!!!

I just want to experiment on people, not fill out forms. Sheeeesh!

Still, I am better at this than either my boss or my ex-labmate. LOL

This Wednesday will be exactly three weeks before my dissertation proposal defense.

It happens this quarter. In June. On the 13th. Lucky thirteen. Don’t make me remind you again…lucky thirteen.
