... now that Canada is getting rid of the penny, is it still lucky to pick one up? I guess I will drop the other 23 and hope for the best. 13 months ago
How I did it: I dumped out my magic piggy bank. Exactly 43 pennies came out, so I knew I was on the right track. I put them in a special compartment in my wallet and left work. I work around a lot of homeless people, so I made sure to scatter several in the parking lot. Then I went to my favorite store, where lots of homeless people also hang out (in the parking lot, not in the overpriced store). Again, I scattered several coins in the parking lot. Then I placed several in secret locations inside the store, all with a big silly grin on my face because I knew I was on a secret mission. I debated a lot with myself over whether to follow the spirit or the letter of this goal: Do the coins have to be dropped, or is it okay to place or fling? Do the locations have to be randomized statistically, or is "here and there" good enough? Could I drop them anywhere, or only in places I thought people would definitely find them? Or only where people would definitely appreciate them and feel lucky? I went for the spirit of the goal, because it seemed much more fun. So I did some dropping and some placing. I ended with driving through a suburban neighborhood and a park area, flinging pennies out my window at intervals. Read how I did it… 15 months ago
I was on my way to the State Fair last with my kids which I thought it would be an excellent place to drop “the lucky pennies.” I stopped at the bank and got one roll of pennies. My 13 year old daughter said, “what do you need those for?” I told her “we were going to drop pennies around the fair so it would make people feel lucky.” Her response…”I don’t like making people feel happy.” Maybe I need a new goal.;0)
I split the pennies up between the three of us and off we went. As I was walking along I would drop a random penny here and there. My friend who I was walking with found one and said, "oh look, a penny and reached down and picked it up." I said, "do you feel lucky now?" She said, "yes, it was heads up."
I don’t know if my kids dropped their pennies, but my mission was accomplished. 19 months ago
