face my fear 11 months ago

So, for whatever reason I’m a bit uncomfortable around guns. Nothing crazy, I just get a little nervous when people are handling them close to me. I’ve been thinking about it for a while, and I think that I should probably just learn more about guns and how they work. I am thinking that if I know what I am doing, I won’t be freaked anymore! I have no desire to kill anything, I just want to know how to shoot, load and unload a gun, etc.

Wohoo! 16 months ago

I’ve had a great time learning to shoot! I got a shot gun for x-mas from my brother and I have a bird dog who loves to hunt so it’s been something I have needed to work on as well. Annie (my dog) and I have had a great time learning to hunt together and it’s funny for people to see us because I have always been pretty much a girly girl but now I am enjoying hunting and fishing and things like that. The first time I shot at a bird, I hit it (which shocked me) and Annie went to retrieve it but couldn’t pick it up so she stood guard and wouldn’t let my brother get it. She would only let me pick it up (much to my displeasure). We have been going ever since! :o)

Trash Cans Are No Match for Me! 20 months ago

My dad and I went out to my grandparents’ house and had target practice for a couple of hours on Saturday. Our target was a yellow plastic trash can, and I shot the holy hell out of it. =^) We only took the .40 and .45 this time. I’m most comfortable with the .40. With the exception of a few wild shots as my arms got tired, I was pretty consistent with it, which made me happy. I hope we go again soon. I had a really good time.

Annie Oakley in Training! 21 months ago

I was ROTC in college and shot all kinds of weapons, but that was so long ago that I feel like I’m starting over from scratch. I don’t remember anything!

My dad took me out to my grandparents’ house in the country to shoot. He started me off with a .22 caliber revolver, and I hit 15 out of 16 shots, so he promoted me to the 9mm, which I didn’t like. The stock (?) was too short, and I had a hard time stablizing it. Then I shot a .40 caliber automatic and hit 17 out of my first 18. I also shot a .45, but it had a lot of recoil to it, so I didn’t do as well with it. Hopefully, we’re going to go out again soon. I want to learn how to clean the guns too.

Shooting at Cans? 3 years ago

I’ve never been hunting or to a firing range, but a friend of mine apparently shoots cans when he’s camping. I said “I’ve never fired a gun. In fact, I’ve never even held one” but I’d like to shoot at empty cans sometime.

Pistols, revolvers, rifles…I’ve now shot them all. :)
