I’m 24 and never used to think about this seriously. Now in the current economic climate, I’d be stupid not to. I don’t wanna be retiring at 75 with only a tiny state pension! I wanna be comfortable with my own money that I have built up. I’m gonna set one up at one of my jobs – maybe even both my jobs :0! 6 months ago

How I did it: I spoke to my financial adviser about what I wanted from a pension. He was very helpful, and asked lots of questions about how much I thought I could afford, and what my plans for the future were.
We filled in some forms, sent them off and before I knew it, I was putting away a small amount each month.

How I did it: I started working full time when I was 19 years old and I must admit it took me 6 years before I realised I should start saving for my retirement.
I asked my HR department about the pension scheme and to my surprise they offered a payment matching scheme up to 5% of my base salary. What that effectively means is that for every pound I pay into the scheme my company will match effectively doubling the payments.
This was quite a good deal and almost imposible to match with a 3rd party so I went with the company policy.
The forms I admit were extremely confusing. If you are not literate in financial jargon it can be all a bit baffling. Fortunately the company that ran the scheme were friendly and steered me in the right direction.
A few forms and one week later I was signed up and have been paying into it ever since. Fingers crossed I'll live long enough to spend it.
