Awesome book! I usually don’t like nonfiction, or economics, but this book was fascenating! (sp?) I totally reccomend it!
Quite entertaining, interesting, and enlightening.. for example we learn that statistics show that estate agents sell their own houses for 3% more than they sell their clients houses.. I especially enjoyed the part that compared what people say on their dating site profile with statistics of how they act.. 97% of the white women that said race doesn’t matter sent mails only to white guys.. and last but not least, in the final chapter they even “prove” statistically that Johan (my name) will be one of the most popular names in the US in 2015 :)
and so I want to read this. Freakonomics, kinda connects…
pixiespassion is having a baby!!!!!
Absolutely worth every minute spent reading these thought-provoking pages. I’d recommend it to anyone.
Steven D. Levitt’s book Freakonomics has an excellent case study that can be applied to the future downfall of destructive cults and totalitarian groups and movements.
Chapter Two: “How Is the Ku Klux Klan Like a Group of Real-Estate Agents?” shows that the pervasiveness of information formerly kept hidden or formerly difficult to access can have dramatic affects in industries where this information was formerly hidden.
Applied to destructive cults and totalitarian groups and movements, exposing previously guarded or hidden information can have a dramatic affect on the future influence of the destructive group.
I’ve bought the book and I’m about a third of the way through right now. It’s very interesting, i’m enjoying it immensely. :)
