Be a better Dad

and being so far away is hard to deal with, but I hope that my support and love find a way to eke across all those miles. Before I ever had a child, I never imagined how much I could ever love them.

factor in a time of stress is something I try to be for my daughter. Entering her 2nd year at university is not the kind of stress that her 1st year was, but she’ll be living in a flat accommodation this time around, rather than dorms.

And I know that she knows that I’m not just a dad, now that she is entering adulthood, but a friend. Keeping the lines of communication open is the best thing I can do. Simple, but it does take work.

Been taking my daughter to the local climbing gym. She seems to like it. Got her a 10-day pass and registering her for a climbing camp. I wanted to climb too but she’s not old enough yet to belay for me. Clearly she needs to grow up faster. Might register us for the Army Run 5K. Yaaaay! We missed the Father’s Day K’s for Kids 5K. Boooo.

I should update 43Things more often. My aspiring teen-ager is spending the week with me while her mother is away. No big plans. Going over summer camps for her to do. She’s no longer down with Guides and soccer. Possibly guitar camp and dance.

Might take a day trip to Marineland, and hit the rock climbing gym.

Waaaaaay back in May we went to Miami for a week. That was her first time out of country, and first time flying.

My baby brother bought her and our Mom some tickets to the winter Olympics. No Olympics for me … saving for a house.

to say you love your kid, but it’s another to say it with such meaning that they know without a doubt what they mean to you. And she most definitely heard it on Friday. ...but it’s hard to say goodbye…

My daughter and I ran a 5K race this past weekend. It was her first 5K, which she finished in 28:55. She really seems to enjoy running. And yes, I made sure she crossed the finish line before me. :)

hours ‘til touchdown.

Which is tough on three hours a week.

called Higher Ground near here and I plan to take the girl there for a concert – any concert – whoever she wants to see. There’s good concerts there. I saw Shawn Mullins there a while back. Good concert. She’s always open to new bands on the scene and I’m certainly game for one. I’ll just dye my hair young and off I go. _{But what do I do about old guy skin?}
