"Awesome, a wonderful memory to have..."
How I did it: Was in New York on a class trip. One of our tutors suggested we go to the box office in the morning - I think it was on a Wednesday? - Where they offer cheap tickets for performances that night, basically to fill up the theatres. I wasn't mad keen actually but thought it would be an experience if nothing else, I was never a musical fan so wasn't sure I'd be into it. I said I'd be willing to see anything other than 'Phantom' though. Well, luckily for us all we settled on 'Mamma Mia!' - and loved it! It was a really great production, really funny, and obviously had some great tunes. We had a bit of a chuckle at the 'English' guy in it though, because as English girls in New York we could spot his phoney 'London' accent a mile off! :D
I'm really glad we chose Mamma Mia, and I've since seen the film, and bought Abba records, all of which remind me of the great time I had in New York, and a really great night in the Wintergarden Theatre. (Every time I see it or hear reference to in on TV I'm all like 'I was THERE!... haha, I am such a tourist!)
I would definitely recommend it.
Lessons & tips: Try and get your tickets cheap on the day (not sure if they do this every day though, have something in my mind about Wednesdays, but will happily stand corrected!) But obviously if you have your heart set on a particular show and are travelling a long way then you should book in advance to avoid disappointment.
