pure_emo teaching my younger bro
as i have a turkish bf, i want to learn his language..
How I did it: lots of dedication to the language, and immersing myself in it. I listened to a one-hour news broadcast in Korean every day over lunch, on top of the 6 or-so hours a day that I spent actually studying the language.

I may be marking this one off soon. My biggest problem with that? When do you mark this type of item off your list? How much do you have to know of a language to legitimately be able to say “I can speak __”? I’ve decided that being able to get by in another country is where I will draw my line. Granted, the best way to test this would be to study abroad for a period of time but I don’t have the resources for that. Anyways, I’m not fluent in Spanish currently but I’ll have completed the intermediate level classes at my college in another three weeks. My friends and I can speak in the past, present, future, conditional, subjunctive, etc. We can hold conversations in Spanish. I think I’ll count this as “done” when I finish this course because I’ll actually be able to handle some conversations ‘en Español”. Looking forward to it!

I took three and a half years of Spanish before taking 231 but I had a brilliant professor who really cared and wanted us to learn. I have learned more in his class this past semester than all my other years combined. I am taking 232 next semester with two of my friends (although my professor is leaving for research so I won’t have him). I hope to retain the Spanish I learned throughout the summer so that next year I can build upon what my professor taught me. :D

There are a few languages that I would love to learn
Spanish – I’d like to speak fluent and write in Spanish
Russian – I have experimented with this it’s hard but I’d like to do the basics.
Africaans- One of the hardest languages you could learn I just want to have a little understanding because I love South Africa and plan to return for holidays on a regular basis.
Italian – the most romantic language, i’d like to know enough to speak on holidays.
I really regret not making more effort when we were taught languages at school and now I’d love to be able to speak a language at conversational level.
I want to learn by myself, slowly, rather than going to classes. Not sure which language I want to learn yet but Spanish or Italian are both looking tempting at the minute!
I always hated languages at school and completely messed about and took no notice. So when I left school years of learning french, spanish and latin went to waste. I kind of regret it now.
I’m training to be a teacher now and am doing a MFL modual at the moment and relise how difficult I find it. I’m gonna try and teach my self a language to prove I can do it :)
My girlfriend speaks fluent French and worked in France for a year. I’m hoping to learn from her and to travel there with her and maybe live there with her for a bit. Even living with her in Geneva would be amazing too.
