How to have a big party
How I did it: Had a memorial day party where my parents met my fiance's, and a bunch of friends came to help buffer to awkwardness (go fig - it wasn't awkward at all!) Grilled food and showed off my new apt.
Held D's Bday Party in July
Held Marti's Bday Party in December
Held a Labor Day Pool Party at my Granny's
And now, I'm planning to use my skills to diy my engagment party/housewarming/wedding, too!
Lessons & tips: Once you get down to it, having a big party doesn't take that long to prepare. alothough having a "reason" for the party helps people make time in their schedules to celebrate, even impromptu parties for the hell of it are fun. pick a theme (or not), put up some decor, grab some basic supplies (we always forget the plates), and cook some good food that works well with large groups.
Just relax, and remember to have fun! People care more about feeling comfortable and relaxed than they do about how much you spend on them, or how "perfect" it is.
