My parents are Polish, and between them somehow manage to know most of the languages I’m familiar with. Because of my Polish heritage, which is combined with a French education in an American city (a city also claiming Spanish as an unofficial local language), I already pretty much know four. When it comes to languages, I’m a bit of a perfectionist. Things have to be said in the right accent, must be spelled right, and absolutely have to at least make sense. So, at 17, I can say that I know about four languages, combined with the various random words in other languages that I’m sure most of us pick up. But I really, really want to learn Italian (up next!), German, Latin, Arabic, Chinese and Russian (if there’s time)...probably within the next eight years.

I know some French, very little Spanish, some Japanese and I’m working on Armenian. I also have a English-Latin dictionary. I want to learn Gaelic as well. So many languages!
elisegastauer This week should be great.
are Bulgarian.
They speak it all the time and they have their friends over as well, and I would love to be able to learn the language and converse with them.
I am picking up a little bit, but I really hope that I get the chance to travel to Bulgaria with them next summer and really be pushed into the culture and language.
I am a bilingual. Spanish and English. I hope to learn Latin, Italian, French and Greek. I already know some Italian but am working towards fluency.
danniellehashope is taking time to work on the simple, most important things. :)
Plus….how cool would it be to be able to communicate with different people from different cultures…and maybe even become a translator for someone someday? That would be awesome. :)

I wrote a little exam on Monday, and it was quite acceptable. But I still don’t like it… I don’t know… maybe I should choose spanish instead of german.

- Thai ( I am intermediate now…yay)
- Japanese ( I was intermediate : ( )
- French
- Spanish
- Latin (studied this in high school, wish I remembered more)
When I am sufficiently fluent in the main Thai dialect I hope to learn some of the others especially Northern Thai and Thai-Isaan. I really enjoy listening to Northern Thais speak. Actually I’d like to learn Lao (which evidently is close to Thai) because I would really like to go to Laos. Actually most SE Asian languages are of interest to me.

Reviewed Japanese for near two hours today. My goal is to get into the second year at PCC next year, because I’ve covered the first year before. Only it was a few years ago : ( However, I remember quite a bit (of declension, katakana, grammar, and vocabulary) and language learning is a pleasure to me, so I have some confidence.
I also practiced French for a bit and intend to practice some Thai this evening. Actually I really need to work on Thai pronunciation, but most people I speak with are too polite to correct me. : (
