I am 55 years old and 220 pounds (100 kilos) and woke up one morning and decided to learn to ride a unicycle. Bought one off the internet 2 months a ago and fell off it a lot. Followed the hold onto the wall strategy which was conservative and slow but now I can ride 50 meters before I get tired (use my legs too much and dont put enough weight on the saddle). My advice to big old people, wear a pillow on your backside and try not to fall off backwards. Mabey I just have slow reflexes and cant get my feet off the pedal fast enough. Now am learning to idle which seems even harder but it is coming. Have spent about 30 hours total learning and it is so satisfying. It feels like flying and it is addictive.

How I did it: Learned at six with a friend, using a walkway rail for support, chalking how far we could get on the ground. Repeated for hours mindlessly every day until we could get past the walkway, and then until we could cycle the length of the driveway. Once we could over the uphill grade in the driveway we could go any distance. Read how I did it…

because I broke my foot. Steve (my unicycle) is chilling in my hallway, patiently waiting until I’m uncrippled.
I learned to unicycle in my Sophmore year in college. It took me 3 days practicing about 1.5 hours a day. At that point I could ride straight for probably a couple hundred yards and turn a bit (but I couldn’t mount without holding onto something). I learned by just repeatedly mounting holding onto a trashcan on each side and going for it over and over again.
Learning to idle took me much longer.

at my house, I have a narrow hallway that I’ve been practicing in…I only practice in short bursts because it gets hot and I usually don’t have a lot of time. I should have bought the unicycle in the winter! then my house would be freezing and I could practice lots haha

got the unicycle, I’ve been practicing it in the hallway, so far, no bruises!

I Bought a unicycle off amazon today, I’m going to go pick up a helmet and some safety pads after work. I have no idea how hard it will be to learn, but we’ll see!
I just found out that my grandmother has my uncle’s old unicycle in her garage. I’m definitely bringing that thing home with me the next time I go up there.
I bought a unicycle in 2001 and never learnt how to ride it. I tried a few times but never even got going – although my house mate could go a few metres. It’s now gathering dust in my parents loft, so I need to get it down, reinflate the tyres, prepare myself to fall off many, many times and just dedicate a few weekends of my life to it. It would be sad if that poor unicycle never got ridden!
I’m getting one for Christmas, and I will try as hard as I can to master it. :)
