play online poker

I’m playing for play money at the moment, so I don’t think I can quite tick this goal off till I’m playing for money! I’m loving it though, and can see how people easily get addicted. I’ve been up to 3500, and back down to 200!

I started online play with Party Poker about 2 years ago (2005) after I initially got into Texas Hold ‘em. Then last year I opened up a Titan Poker account. Unfortunately, both terminated my account cause they don’t allow U.S.-based play.

So, I opened an account with Full Tilt Poker in July, and deposited a few bucks.

I was hoping to say I struck it rich, but I find it hard to consistently win online. I like the tournaments as opposed to the straight cash games, but you get such a mix of different skill levels, and even worse: people with totally different values of their money.

In the lower stakes, you see people playing completely reckless, obviously trying to get lucky. For instance: going all-in every single hand. Or making an unbelievably bad call when the odds are way out of their favor, and they just don’t care. Like it doesn’t even matter.

I prefer the home games, especially since you can see your opponent. However, online games provide a great place to practice, since only rarely do I ever get to play a live face-to-face game.

With the new legislation passed it is much harder to play online poker here in the US. The law needs to change.
