I’ve put myself on a healthier diet and am determined to stick to it till I reach my ideal weight. Basically I’ve cut out all cereal carbohydrates except oats, which I have in a meusli mix in the morning. I’m eating a lot more fresh fruit and veges, in fact if the veges don’t need to be cooked I’ll eat them raw. Potatoes are off my carbs list too for the time being. No bread, rice or pasta, and no refined sugar as well. I’m still eating meat, and I’ll have things like lentils and chickpeas that are a better source of carbs for me to metabolise. Through this change my sugar levels (I’m diabetic) have also begun to stabilise.
I had been hovering just below 90 kgs for months – now I’m back down to 86 kgs after the 5th day of my change in foods. I’ll see how much more I can lose by sticking to this (essentially) low GI and sugar free diet.

I’m below 90kgs now, that makes me happy. According to one set of scales I’m about 86kg. My ideal is said to be 65kg, but I’d be happy to get down to 70kgs again.
Can’t say I’m over doing the exercise bit – but I’ve been making a bit more of an effort. More walks and pushing myself to finish weeding and digging tasks in the garden.
Feeling better for the weight loss.

And It’s not all because I eat too much (I really dislike it when I hear people make assumptions about why a person is overweight). I eat just as much as all you healthy weighted people. If anything, it’s due to lack of exercise. Yes I’ll admit to finding it hard to motivate myself to go for walks, or swim, or anything else that would benefit my energy levels and reduce my sugar levels and my weight. I’m in one of those catch 22 situations – I lack the enegy at times to be able to exercise – yet after excercising I actually begin to gain energy. Sometimes I force myself out on a walk when all I feel like doing is sleep. I need to do this more often.
Not that I don’t excercise at all. I enjoy gardening, I get a good workout at chorus practice each Wednesday night. And at present I’ve been doing more walking than I think moving stuff between the house and the granny flat – and bending and stretching in the process of cleaning walls and cupboards.
All the same – I know, from past experience (yes I have done it before), that a good 2 hour walk at least 3 days a week is my most effective form of exercise. Even more beneficial is when I spend more time going for a walk along a bush trail, taking in the clean air and relaxing. I have to plan my walks – and planning isn’t one of my strong points. Unfortunately those spontaneous walks just aren’t happening anymore.
I already have a to do on my list for walking. Now it’s a must do so I can lose weight.
