Whew. Did it. Made it through another holiday season. Note to self: remember to stay conscious of winter holiday-induced doldrums.
Carrick is working on staying fit
Ever since I created this goal I’ve managed to feel neither grumpy, panicky, nor melancholy. It would seem that merely posting it here has solved the problem.
Lesson learned: write it down.

Lincoln Logs look the same, feel the same, and smell the same as they did 30 years ago, but now they are smaller and made in China. Nothing is completely sacred.
There’s a cool toy store in Madison Valley (Seattle) that sells a different brand of logs that are the same size as the old Lincoln Logs but we had already purchased these.
It’s dark and dreary, which adds to the grumpy and melancholy stuff (don’t know about panicky). I’m going to use my litebook at least 5 mornings a week. This really makes a difference. Also we are lighting candles in the evening and playing Christmas songs on the piano. There’s a lot of chocolate involved lately, too. Hot chocolate a lot of evenings, plus I just made 5 pounds (yes pounds) of fudge last night, most of it to give away. But of course some of it to keep…

Every year, the time leading up to Thanksgiving and ending right after New Year’s Day seems to put me in a funk. I vascilate between being grumpy, panicky, and/or melancholy with each passing day. Some of this has to do with the grey, wet weather, and a lot of it has to do with three decades of learned behavior on my part. This holiday season, I’ve already experienced these three feelings. What can I do to break the cycle for next year?
