Open a cafe/bookstore

I want to own my very own cafe/bookstore. I’d like to do in NYC but if that doesn’t work out, I want to open it in my own home town to try and bring some class back. I have a theme and everything picked out and I know how I want it set up and everything. But I have no idea how to start a small business!!! is there somewhere I can go to find out how to do this? I plan on doing it while I go to college. I will graduate high school in 2011. I realy want to start planning. I can use my profits to help me pay for my college education.

I am planning on opening up a cafe/bookstore in the Brooklyn area in about 10 years. Im going to school to be a therapist right now but the burn out rate is so high when dealing with mental health so I want to have a cafe in which I can have a chill spiritual vibe. I can’t wait! I can see the place in my mind! Warm colors, nice cozy furniture, world music, some organic goodies and of course the best coffee and teas around! :)

I definitely want to do this. I think it would be a great business that maybe won’t make me wealthy monetarily but spiritually.

Plus pay the bills and all that, but still. Definitely sounds like a great idea for the hands on business owner.

I found the lot that my bookstore/learning center/cafe’ will be built on. The designers will begin planning the bookstore May 2007. The lot purchase will be closed June 2007. Approval from the City Commission and all other paperwork will be completed June 2007.

It would be a dream come true, to own and opperate my own Shoppe’...A place to meet, greet and feed not only the Mind but the Soul. A place that gives a sense of “Warm, Friendly, Cozy, Comforts; like curling up with a hot cup of java and your favroite novel comfort…
Lite brunches, and tea/coffee pastries… along with smooth Jazz and Lite R&B music playing softly in the background… Now thats what I am Talking About…

Ever since visiting Mendocino I’ve wanted to open up a little cafe/bookstore. I love the chill vibe you get when you walk in and see the walls covered with local artist’s work and books in shelves all around you, free for your reading enjoyment, as well at the smell of fresh brewing coffee and hot tea. Ahh -I can almost…reach…it. I would love to do this! It’d even be cool to like have a little inn or something and just have one of these in them. It’d feel so home-y… yay!

I already have the design in my head. I even talked to my sister who is an interior designer about it. Now the only problems are to find an nice shop for it and get some revenue. Plus I believe in feng shui, so I have yet to find the suitable spot to build this place.

Yes you too can open a cafe. I would warn against offering too much in the way of food though. At my cafe we provided vegetarian salads and soups along with juice, pasteries and of course lots of bean. Great music and art going on all the time. Keep your number of employees to a minimum and don’t hire friends even if they are the best barista in the world. Most importantly get ready to work your tail off. Be careful to only order what you need. Have fun and love life always in even the not so great times!
