A recent hire asked me if I was a lead. I’m not in a leadership position but I’m still trying to make a positive difference.

I think I am more interested in facilitating change, in facilitating groups, as opposed to lead other people. I don’t like to be leaded – why should I lead other people?
I prefer to emphasize personal responsability rather than taking over.
Through the FFA I have developed leadership and it really helps me in everything I do. Its awesome!
This means believing in what I think and say, developing people skills and letting go of control while being able to contain what is happening.

It turns out that there’s a local toastmaster meetings. Once a week on Thursday around noon.

Finished the 14th CD today. I definitely enjoyed some discs more than others. I liked the sessions by Brian Tracy, Brad Worthley, Mark Sanborn, and Danny Cox.
This goal will not be completed until I feel that I have adequately demonstrated leadership skills. For a completion entry: I’ll describe a situation, the actions I took, and the results.

I’ve watched the DVD and listened to the first 8 CDs (out of 14 total). I’m trying to do one per day and apply lessons learned. I’m not sure I would recommend the program though. The CDs are basically excerpts from a handful of speakers talking about leadership. There’s very little overall structure to the program. I think some learning aides like flash cards or a journal would improve the program. Maybe I’ll make a journal and create cards myself.

I was at Costco today and ran across the audio success series on Leadership. It’s a set of 14 audio CDs and a single DVD. It was $30 with a $10 rebate so I figured I’d give it a shot.
Self-reflection is nothing if not acted upon.
In the workplace:
I will begin corralling my high expectations and cutting sarcasm for review. I will begin a study of how to utilize my personality in a positive manner.
This is going to be difficult…
