    Fantastic! 21 months ago

Was on holiday in Wales in February 2008 with my wife and another couple so we decided to walk up Snowdon, Britain’s 4th highest peak at 3500ft. We opted for the ‘easy’ path from Llanberis and set off at 9am when it was sub-zero and perfect, sunny weather. It took about 3 hours to walk up and another 2 to come back down again. The Halfway House cafe was shut when we went up there as was the station at the top which was undergoing refurbishment. Take plenty of your own supplies and refreshments… I got through about 1.5 litres of Powerade.
Fantastic views all the way up and from the top we could just make out some mountains in Ireland at a distance of 108 miles!! Apparently this is a rare sight. Well worth it… a great sense of achievement but you must do research before attempting it.

Walked up the Snowdon Ranger Path and down the Ryd-Ddu Path on 14 March. It was cloudy near the top (and windy and cold), but there were a few moments where we got some peeks at the spectacular view.

    Well worth it!

worth doing even if you can't see! 2 years ago

I went up when I was 12 or 13 with my dad in Febuary. I don’t think winter is ideal at all and was pretty damn silly of us really. It was mostly my nagging that made us go. Anyway I’m going up again this year, only this time I’m going via Crib Goch! Scary stuff, though my mate Jake who is an experienced climber said it’s fine :-S we’ll see…

hopefully we’ll get a lovely day- the day after we went up it was really sunny.

2nd time lucky 3 years ago

first time I went alone, took a wrong turn and ended up stuck towards the top of crib goch (if you see a warning sign for crib goch when you’re trying to go up snowdon TURN ROUND!!!!) – 2nd time took some company (ie supervision!) – up pyg track down miners track. Lovely views, plenty of variety (unlike Scafell Pike from Wasdale)

It’s a mini mountain which I’m led to believe can be done in a day. Hard work, I’m sure but worth it for the view.

May 2003. This was one of my all time favorite day-hikes, and it was a good workout but not too difficult. On a brisk windy day, took the local bus to a trailhead on the north (or was it east?) side, and proceeded up the well-defined footpath. The views of post-glacial terrain are very beautiful, Yr Wyddfa itself being an arete. Descended via footpath along the cog railway route to Llanberis, a lovely little town, and treated myself to a well-earned pot of hot tea at the charming Pen-y-ceunant cafe near the end of the trail. What a nice day that was.
