Very cool to look back and see how far this little walkway has come!

Mcarter below mentioned the dry stone walling association, i cannot echo his/her comments enough,
whatever country your in i would hope hey have an authority on dry stone walling which should run cources, i went on one of these for a weekend and leant enough to have a crack at it =)
this took me a good 2 weeks of half days, and as davecm said the perminance of achieving something is amazing =)
I am waiting for some (far too expensive in my opinion) flat topping sontes to go on the top and make it nice and finished. The main bulk of wall is done and awaiting delivery within 2 weeks.
good luck to you all =)

I’m sad to say that for several months of my life I havent been able to find time to get onto 43 things but i’m determined to get involved again. However in that time I have been still doing things so this is more documentation I suppose :)
So in quick sucession, here is what i was starting with a, 3m wall outside my parents house that a car hit and a wee bit damaged.

Just started working out the measurements. I’m pretty stoked! It should be cool in the end. There’s a grade, a dip, and some other issues that need to be overcome, which I think will only make it look that much cooler. I’ll post pics as things change.
I had been wanting to build a stone wall for quite some time. I finally had the chance at my parents property. It’s nothing fancy, and won’t be entirely finished until we completely fill in behind it. but it made me want to do much more. I like permanence of it as well, and once it’s done, it feels like you accomplished something.
anyone can do it but most people do it wrong the first few times. It takes many years of practice to become good at it but I’ve seen some very good efforts by beginners. the dry stone walling association of great britain is the foremost authority. check out their website.
My daughters and I have built some wee walls, but rather than satisfying my desire to build, this only whet my appetite. I am avoiding buying a wheelbarrow because then what will stop me from neglecting all my responsibilities in favor of wall building? I just want to build a simple dry stone wall with the stones on our property.
I have always thought it would be cool to pull stones from a river, maybe a hundred or so every weekend and add them to an ongoing stone wall which would be finished in a few years time. Permanence is what I like about it.
