water! 2 years ago

for those of you who want tips on how to drink more water, i googled and found a great site from wikihow – http://www.wikihow.com/Drink-More-Water-Everyday

some highlights that i found helpful are:
-Drinking a full glass of water first thing in the morning helps wake the body up. So kick-start your day with water!
-Water helps you look good. By flushing out toxins and impurities, water can make your skin clearer, smoother and younger looking.
-Drinking water helps you control hunger. Drink a large glass of ice water 20 minutes before meals. The cold causes your stomach to shrink somewhat, which will make you feel full more rapidly.
-Try setting a glass of water near where you are, for example if you’re sitting at a computer for a long period of time. Sometimes, you will automatically drink without realizing it. Your mind knows when you’re thirsty, even if you don’t.

master cleanse 2 years ago

i am going to try the master cleanse. i think it will help me think about what i’m putting into my body and be more responsible in that area of my life. i don’t go to fast food places often, but the recent times that i’ve gone, i get a kid’s meal instead of a regular adult meal. when i’m really feeling strong-willed i get a healthier side instead of fries (this doesn’t happen often, but i’m working on it).

one more thing.. 2 years ago

that dieter’s saying about not denying yourself too much, that you can indulge sometimes.. well that kills me. because i end up thinking that when i want to make exceptions and eat something i shouldnt. it ends up that i barely deny myself anything at all!!

lately ive been tryingto keep this in mind. today i went thru the mcdonalds drive thru, and i honestly had been craving their fries lately.. and i decided that i could either get a meal like i regularly would or just let myself get some nuggets. so even though i still got a soda and nuggets, i decided no fries! nuggets and soda arent exactly great choices but hey, im working on it hahaa

i am also going to use this goal to try and eat slowerrrr. i usually eat when im really hungry (dont get me wrong, i snack too) but by the time the meal is in front of me i scarf it down. ive heard about eating slower, therefore enjoying the food more, and usually that leads to eating less or rather not overindulging. it seems like such an easy task yet i still swallow my food like it might run away if i dont finish it fast enough.

where did this come from? my mom eats so damn slow shes always the last one eating. she also asks everyone questions though.. this is probably related…

more fruit! 2 years ago

tonight my family wanted to go out to dinner.. usually we go to an italian place but we were feeling a bit more casual tonight. so we went to perkins and they all got bigger sized meals and i wanted to get fresh fruit. they didnt have any more (i guess because it was later in the day?) so i settled for 2 poached eggs with toast. not terribly healthy but i couldve gotten something less good for me like chicken fingers and fries.. gross fried food!
i really like it but honestly i feel like 10lbs heavier after!

Quinoa for dinner 3 years ago

Tonight, I ate quinoa for dinner, and it occurred to me that this must be some sort of milestone. :D I must admit that I’m still not eating the way I ideally could. There are still some doughnuts and carbonated soda once in a while, and I don’t eat as many vegetables as I should . . . but, on the whole, I am eating SO much better now than I did when I created this goal. I’ve also educated myself a lot, so now I do know what I should be eating (even if sometimes I eat naughty stuff anyway). So, yeah, my eating habits are definitely healthier.

Now, if I could just get my kid to eat better, too! :D

So close to checking this off! 3 years ago

I’ve come a HUGE way on this issue since I made it a goal here, but I’m still not quite ready to consider it complete. I’ve been seeing my nutritionist for more than a month now, and have learned a bunch of things – including some cooking tips and recipes. I think I’ve got a good handle now on what I should be eating. I’m not quite in the habit of doing it all the time just yet, though. I have started incorporating healthier foods into my diet – but some of the junky stuff is still slipping in when I get lazy. And it’s not that I don’t intend to let myself eat some “junky” stuff – I just don’t want to go entire days when that’s all I eat. So, making good progress on this one.

I've eliminated meat from my diet 3 years ago

Over the past couple of weeks, I have completely eliminated meat from my diet (including fish). I think this is a good start towards eating more healthily. Now, though, I am concerned about making sure I get enough protein and other nutrients. I do take a multi-vitamin designed for vegetarians, but I want to do some additional research, to make sure I’m really eating properly. So, still a bit more work to do before I’m satisfied about this goal. :)
