How to model nude for an artist
How I did it: I had been thinking about it for many years, ever since art school. I am in my 50's now. I seriously have been tossing it around for a few years. One of the models at a drawing group that I attend was giving a class in modeling and I thought of taking it, but it was canceled. I started searching Craigslist and the internet for art groups and art schools and send a few emails around, but never heard a response. I auditioned at the School of Visual Arts after hearing of their auditions. I was the oldest one there and we auditoned 3 at a time in front of 3 different groups of model coordinators from different schools. I didn't get the gig but felt good about the experience. Then one day I got a call from a group that needed a last minute replacement and I said yes. I was so nervous, but didn't have time to think about it much, because they needed me like within a few hours. It was a group of four women. I thought I would have a case of the nerves, but once I got in front of them the seriousness of their drawing setteld me down. I wasn't in great shape at the time, but the experience of being naked in front of a class of women has spurred me to lose weight and start working out. I do so evry day now and have gotten a ton of jobs at various places and a steady gig at a community college 1 to 4 times a week. I take shots of all the drawings I can and post them on my Imageevent site for further jobs.
Lessons & tips: Practice yoga and get in shape. Lift weights and study art, especially the masters both old and new. Google nude drawings and photos for ideas, but most of all, take a life drawing class so you know how it works. Don't worry about erections, if you are a guy. They just don't happen.
Resources: There are groups of artist models that will gladly help. i even had a model meet me to discuss how to model after i read an ad of his in Craigslist and he graciously responded to my email.

I did the Spencer Tunick shoot in Dublin, last saturday.
Amazing, surreal and one of the best things I have every done !!
If he is in your country for a shoot, do it !!
The atmosphere and spirit was amazing, even though it rained !!
A massive thank you to Pamela, whom I’ve chatted about doing this and inspired me to go for it, and not be worried about my hang-ups !!!
Thank you so much !! x
I usually don’t exactly give up on goals, but I’m taking this off for now. I have friends now who paint, sculpt, and draw, and honestly, I just feel weird having this up. If they ever came across it they might get the wrong idea and think I have some ulterior reason for being friends with them. I don’t. I’d like to do this (someday with somebody), but it has nothing to do with why I formed these friendships. I care about these people and enjoy their company. I’d like to have some of their art- not necessarily of me, either- and I plan to BUY some when I get a job. If I ever had them do anything of me, not only would it be paid for (like everyone else pays for it), but it would be with my clothes on. Actually, when I posted this, I was thinking modeling nude for a class would be most likely, anyway, although more embarassing. Yet, I don’t think I’d be very embarassed now, so a class would suit me fine. Anyway, my main point is, I don’t want to give my new friends the wrong ideas, so for now, this is on the back burner and off my list. Friendships are first.

I modeled for several art classes in college. I saw the job posted in the financial aid office my freshman year but chickened out. Sophomore year I got up enough nerve to actually go for the job and found out I loved it. I modeled for sculpture, painting and photography. All of the students were very professional and it was only awkward the first couple of classes. After I got used to standing up there nude it was no big deal. It was a great experience and I even got to keep one of my sculptures. it also made me more comfortable with my body…flaws included
