In 1974 I bought a 1969 Ghia for 1,800 dollars! Wow. It was light blue, with eight spoke Empi “Spyder” mags. It had a luggage rack, and glass pack exhaust tips. I put in a Panasonic stereo cassette player, and painted the rack, spokes, and wiper arms flat black. It was so very much fun to drive! I was going to the University of West Florida and Pensacola Junior College at the same time, tryingto remedy a serious grade point deficit incurred while dodging (unsuccessfully) the draft prior to my induction in May of 1969.
I used to roar around town between schools with the Grateful Dead “Workingman’s Dead” or the Band’s “Stage Fright” or the Beatles “White Album” cranking out of a pair or speakers that were mounted in enclosures so I could position them front right and left rear if I was alone, or toss them on the back deck if there were passengers (but there weren’t many, as I was largely self contained at that point.) The beast would NOT tip over, no matter how hard I flung it into corners…but it would spin out, if pushed over the line, or if it was wet.
