Both my wife and I had bigger weddings the first time around and both of our marriages ended in divorce. Although we didn’t think the size of the wedding had anything to do with the divorces, we both wanted to have a wedding for us instead of for everyone else.
Originally we just wanted to have our kids (we each had a son), her brother (who perforned the ceremony), my sister and husband and her sister and husband. As word got out about the wedding other folks wanted in on it too, so we added my parents, her mom and her step father.
We had her brother get ordained in the Universal Life Church so that he could perform the cermony and he also played music before and after the ceremony. After we were wed we had a small lunch with everyone and then they left and we had a great honeymoon.
The wedding was fantastic because we had it almost exactly as we wanted it. It was simple and quick and full of things important to us.
