I love to walk

dirt wet and just a
slightly bit oozy
under my toes

I love to smell
the soil and all
its promise rising
up to meet my nose
and be breathed
into all of me and back
to all and each and
every one of you

I love to feel
intensely connected
to the seeds of the earth
its nurturance its holding
its flavorful nature

I love to stand
And sink, just slightly
as I come to know
the dirt, moist,
under my feet

and I realize belated doesn’t mean anything except I am a little bit late right now.
