I was asked to sing at a family friend’s wedding… She paid me for it mostly because I had to deal with a really bad organ player and because I had to do the entire thing without a microphone (the church was gigantic!), but overall it was a really great experience. I’d recommend it, it’s very rewarding whether you get paid or not.
How to sing at a wedding.
How I did it: I'd perform (usually) at the rehearsal the night before the wedding so that I'd know the cues and where they wanted me to stand during the performance. The day of the wedding, I would have terrifying butterflies which usually didn't go away until the end of the song! Then I would mingle at the reception and feel like a big star at a Grammy afterparty! ;) I got a very spiritual feeling knowing that what I did was
something that the bride would remember all of her life and something
that would make her wedding unique and personalize it for her and her family.
Lessons & tips: I rehearsed with my cousin Thearon for several weeks before the wedding date, meeting with him and another guy who played the piano for us
after work to go over and over and over every line of the song and our
harmonies until we felt we had the song down, and then we'd rehearse it
a few dozen more times to make ourselves totally comfortable with our
parts. For my solos, Thearon would listen with a critical ear and give me helpful advice about pitch and tone, etc.
Resources: My cousin Thearon Roberts and our friend John Cameron.

I used to sing a lot when I was younger, but haven’t found the opportunity to do so the older I’ve gotten…except for in weddings. Several of my friends have asked me to sing in their weddings, which is very special to me :) I’m glad that I’m able to give my friends a gift this way…and it’s something I love!!
I sing with the church choir at a lot of weddings…and although i’ve not sung on my own, I have played the trumpet on my own a fair few times :) yay! xxx

I had a wedding, and I had a song, but at the last minute I decided against it because I heard through the grape vine that the bride was a little apprehensive about it. I figured, eh, might as well let the bride have her way. I can make a fool of myself at my own expense some other time.
I actually sung at my brother’s wedding. It was so special to them it was worth the nervousness that I went through to do it.
...I sang at my uncle’s wedding. I think I sang some nursery rhymes, my mum held me up to the microphone and I wasn’t particularly happy to be up there, but my gran insisted on it.

Two of my great friends are getting married on my 30th birthday and I’m in charge of the soundtrack which will be taking a page from the American Songbook legends like Frank Sinatra and Fred Astaire. I have started really getting into these guys now, and asked if I could sing a song on stage at their reception. Rest assured, I’m no singer. But I have delusions of reinventing myself as a Rat Pack member born 50 years too late. I want to dress up, arrive in a ridiculous car, and sing old medleys with my closest friends. Against all good judgement, they said I could do it. Oops!
