Yay! Just heard.
And have met a Spanish speaking mom, new to our school, and will try to get together for coffee with her. Would help thi goal, if I had someone to Speak Spanish with, with the kids.

the adult Spanish discussion group meets at a conflicting time (during girl scout meetings). But they’re thinking of starting another group where we could bring kids, so our kids can hear us speaking, and be a part of a Spanish-speaking community. Yay!
The Spanish club is going great, my girls look froward to it every week, mostly because it’s a fun playdate for thema nd their friends, but they’re showing growing interest in speaking Spanish too.
And I’m going in every week to teach Spanish at my eldest’s kindergarten and first grade class.
No, they’re not fluent, but they’re prononciation has improved dramatically, it’s just right now. And I’m hoping the fluency, and the frequency with which I use it will increase, while a find a community to do this with…

It’s gotten my kids very interested in speaking Spanish, so that I can slip into at other times too—and they even request it. All the kids in the “club” have learned some words, and songs, yay! And I have a couple of Spanish-speaking friends who have dropped in, and it is also getting easier to slip into Spanish with them.
Next month I’m planning on joing an adult conversation group too.

has helped so much. My kids are really nto it. It’s also nice as a playdate, to bond with other kids, decompress after school…
But especially, it hads really opened the door for me speaking in Spanish more. I may start another club on the weekend with another litle group of amigitos…
It’ll help to get more involved and immersed in a Latino community in AA.

My 5yo actually said to me: “Aren’t you supposed to be teaching me Spanish?” I feel so terrible! Ok, gotta start now!
A friend inspired me (and urged me, really) to do this. My husband speaks Spanish as his first language and I am fluent, I used to teach Spanish immersion kindergarten. I made the decision to use only Spanish when my son was about 10 mos. old. It is working great! He’s now starting to speak more, and most of his words are in Spanish (he’s almost two) but he picks up English very quickly from our friends and families.
I need to keep improving my Spanish, and we need to stay connected to the language and community because we are both forgetting and reverting to English a lot!

This will help me practice my spanish. Even though it’s my first language, it’s amazing how much you can forget, if you don’t use it. Thanks to all who put together that site. Espero mejorar mi espaƱol.

I want them to be bilingual, it makes such a difference, in leaving a mind open. Knowing, really understanding, that there are always other ways to look at things, ways we can’t even imagine. It’s easy to understand this when you know that there are certain concpets that there are words for in one language, but not another.
I think I resist, because I don’t want to hear my mother. I grew up speaking spanish, and she was abusive. But I have to get over that, find a community to practice with. I really miss the immersion school in Portland where we used to live, lovely community too.
I’ll start by only speaking Spanish after 3 pm, everyday. We’ll see.
