Teach my son how to read!

The school is really doing this right now. First grade is a heavy learning to read year. I’m leaving this on my list since I need to stay accountable for reading and practicing at home – I can’t just leave it up to the school. 5 years ago

My son’s kindergarten teacher has sent home about 25 sight words for them to learn. We’re using phonics to sound them out but the repetition will eventually lead to just knowing them by sight. I absolutely LOVE that light bulb moment where we’re sounding out a word and then he recognizes it. He’s so proud of when he gets it! The sibling rivalry thing is still a big issue. My daughter wants to do the work too, but my son doesn’t want to share. I try to do them a different times but she usually gets short changed. 5 years ago

I had several workbooks with phonics activities that I’d purchased before Christmas. I pulled them out this weekend and did some of them. Kids loved it and it was fun to have some ‘new’ activity to enjoy with them. I’m planning on working on this goal over the summer – just some pre-reading skills until June. 6 years ago
