Phone Messages 1 week ago

I know this is so basic it’s almost stupid but today I learned how to retrieve phone messages left on voice mail.

I guess if I don’t know how to do all these things better that I learn them now than not at all!

Roasted Liver 1 week ago

Today for the first time I roasted liver for the doggies to make treats to train them with… Aargh! Sloppy slimey and bloody… but they love it!

Thinking New Stuff Counts Right? 1 week ago

I hope it does. At least I’ll make it count for me if I record it in my book. Writing it down will make me think about it.

Anyway today I brought both the doggies to the pet store for the first time—had to get them a second pee tray.

And tonight I’m making a new dish—something with a brown rice & cheese crust which helps me towards my vegetarian recipes goal too!

Resolution continued 10 months ago

I met new people on the 9th at a dinner party, I sold advertising for a new magazine in West Ocean City, and on Sunday I took a Spanish lesson online (I never studied Spanish before). On Monday Jan. 12 I went to the grocery and bought some new food, that is, food I have never eaten before. It was coyote squash and cheddar cheese with horseradish and a naan flatbread from India. I went home and looked up how to prepare the squash, and I made it and it was delicious. The cheese on the flatbread went great with some roast beef. And I also drank a new beer called Steel. As for today, I wrote a short story using only one letter or one number. For example, the opening was: I M A B. U R? I M. R U? I M 2. Silly but fun and challenging.

New things to do every day 10 months ago

I made this my resolution for 2009, and it has been fascinating. It is challenging to think of new things to do, and it is also interesting in noting the reactions of people whom I speak to regarding this resolution.

I am documenting every new thing I do in a journal. On New Year’s Day I saw for the first time the new Benjamin Button movie. On the second I painted my bedroom (never did that before). On the third I actually met with someone who published a magazine and now I have a new job selling ads for them. On the 4th I finished a new novel (Water for Elephants), and on the 5th I drank a new beer (Budweiser American Beer) and listened to music that I never heard before. On the 6th I did oragami for the first time. (I went to the library and got two books on it, and I created a shirt and pants oragami, simple, silly, but hey it was new! And I learned about the history of oragami.) On the 7th I learned a new magic trick (found it online), and today is the 8th and I have not done anything new.,...well, I take that back,,,I have now,..I never have been to this website and this is similar to a blog, so ok I am blogging for the first time in my life. Feel free to send me your comments. My email is oceancityhappyme@aol.com.

The new thing a day is the best resolution I have ever made. It is amazing how many things we do over and over again,,,,it really encourages me to broaden my horizons. I do not plan what I am going to do for the most part. I do know that tomorrow I will be meeting some new people at a party, so that will count. The bottom line is that I am growing. Big smile.

new chapter 14 months ago

I know this is not what I am supposed to be doing with my life; but I don’t know which direction to take. I resolve to do something new everyday. This can include, but not limited to, learning about a subject that typically would not interest me or just about anything to take me out of my comfort zone. In order for this to be successful, I will have to plan my days, weeks in advance, so I do not run out of ideas. Here goes the brainstorm of ideas, and then i will plot them against each day for the next couple weeks.
1. fast
2. Take a yoga class
3. Listen to classical music
4. Meditate
5. go snowboarding

Well darn... 15 months ago

I was stung by a bee while gardening today. Not Worth It! I won’t use my gloves unless I am working with my roses. There is something satisfying about the feeling of pulling weeds and pruning plants. More attention will be required in the future!

With our Kansas City trip... 15 months ago

I drove a rental car, which I would do again even though I just don’t like driving cars that don’t belong to me.

I rode in a small moving truck. This was no problem and I would do it again if need be.

I ate at Waffle House for the very first time! This has been something that my family could hardly believe… that I had never eaten at Waffle House. It was too smokey and too expensive for what we got – I won’t be getting a hankering for Waffle House anytime soon!

Good fortune 16 months ago

A delightful hummingbird was spotted on my front porch this morning. I have never seen a hummingbird in my own yard before. This has got me wondering if getting a hummingbird feeder would really attract hummingbirds, or if this was just a fluke.
