Everytime I clean my closet or any other part of the house I take a load of stuff upstairs and throw it into boxes labeled “yard sale”. I have no idea why its been taking me so long to actually set up a garage sale on whatever weekend. I always just say ”...aah, in 2 weeks” blah!
How to have a garage sale
How I did it: I took all of my old stuff down from the attic... Loads of stuff that I have accumulated over time. I put aside the few things that I absolutely could not live without and sold the rest.
Lessons & tips: Advertise your garage sale in your local newspaper and on Craigslist. Hang up signs around your area. If someone offers you less than you're asking for, just give it to them.... You don't need it anymore and they can make use of it. In the end you'll feel happy and decluttered.

I’ve set myself a goal of having one 2 weeks from today. I’ve cleaned out the kids playroom and have a bunch of toys that they’ve outgrown… now to move on to decluttering the rest of the house and collect more unwanted stuff for the sale. Then anything that doesn’t sell I will take down to my parents’ house for their community sale in August. Anything left from that will be donated as it is not coming back into my house!

This past Saturday, we had our second sale this spring! We sold about $60 worth of small items, so I felt good about that. I am planning our third sale for next month with friends, but that one will be more like a “moving sale,” with big furniture items, etc, and fewer little items.

Looks like we’re set for the second round, coming up this Saturday! After the first round a few weeks back, I got rid of some of the stuff that didn’t go (Good will & the dump), leaving some of it for Round 2. Since then, we’ve been bringing out more stuff, and participating friends have added to the pile as well. Good stuff for someone who needs it! Hopefully we’ll have at least one more round - the “moving sale”! - perhaps in July. That’ll be the big stuff—furniture and so on.
Gosh it feels good, even though I realize that there is still a long way to go!

My garage sale is over. I didn’t prepare as well as I could have, meaning I could have gone through a lot more drawers and set out a lot more things. But I got rid of several of the big things I was wanting out of my house, and I made $120. So it was a success. I think I could do this once a year. Or I could just go back to giving all my things to Goodwill, that’s a lot easier!

Okay, we had our first sale last weekend. I have cleaned out some of the stuff that didn’t sell, taking it to Good Will and the book exchange. Now, we need to re-stock the garage and have another before mid-June. I will pick a date this week.

We’re well on our way—we’ve got lots of stuff stacked up on one side of the garage. The next task is to pull out the car, set up the tables and start sorting/pricing.
Perhaps the bigger challenge than holding the sale will be getting all the participants to get rid of what DOESN’T sell! Actually, we’re going to hold a second sale in June, so I can live with trying to sell stuff the second time around. But then I plan to run to Good Will the following Monday with anything that might be useful to people. Anything left over goes to the landfill or Freecycle.
Not worth the time and effort to have a bunch of rude people in my garage. Will probably stick to eBaying from here on out.

The neighborhood garage sale is May 30th. Now that it is planned I can’t get out of it. I have taken the time off from work, now all I have to do is go through my stuff and decide what to get rid of. I don’t have tons of stuff, but some big things that I’d like to get out of my house. I just need to get it all moved to my garage!
