Amazing! I have been fortunate enough to do this several times and its the best.
How to see a concert from the front row
How I did it: It was spontaneous. We originally had lawn seats at the Dave Matthews show in Tampa. A friend of mine decided she wanted the shoes that dave had personally designed for Tom's shoes (you know, from the commercials), but she didn't want to pay the $60. So our friend Charlie asked jokingly "what's in it for us?" to the attendant that was there. She said, "a ticket upgrade...to the front row orchestra." We were thrilled. Needless to say, it was the best $60 I have ever seen anyone spend. Seats 7 - 10 at my home venue seeing my all time favorite band live? And, to top it all off, Carter Beauford gave me one of his drumsticks. Absolutely, definately, highlight of my 19th year of existence. No doubt. Oh, and by the way, go witness a Dave Matthews concert. It is epic.
Lessons & tips: buy Tom's shoes.
Resources: good friends and Tom's shoes.

every time i go to a concert, it’s a must (:
i get there super early to do so. it’s worth it for me.
you aren’t a major victim of all the pushing and shoving, you can get great photos, and it has it’s advantages ;)
set lists, drum sticks, picks, etc. become much easier to obtain.
i went to a free concert in boston with taking back sunday and treos (the receiving end of sirens). me and my buddies made it all the way to the front of the pit. its definitely a must do even if you get crushed alive haha everybody down there going crazy and screaming along with your favorite bands… you cant go wrong
I won tickets from a local radio station to see Maroon 5 and John Mayer in concert. They were the worst tickets I have ever had in my life. My sister and I got to the show a little early to check out the seats. While we were sitting there gripping about how bad the tickets were, a woman came up to us (out of nowhere) and introduced herself. She asked why we were sitting in such horrible seats and we told her what had happened and mentioned that it was my birthday (it was). The woman then handed us two front row center tickets. It was probably the best day of my life so far.
The image attached is of the view from our crappy seats. I was taking it to send to a friend. While I was fidgeting with my phone and not paying attention, my sister started talking with the ticket fairy.
Sometimes this isnt always best, depending on the layout of the stage, and how much you love getting crushed by people.

ScorpioNerve is bound for the ocean this summer! and hoping her son will be OK
at Emory- they said it looked like they were playing in an Escher print. Small venue, good acoustics. I met someone there, also on the front row. We dated for years, quite possibly on the strength of that one shared experience… wonderful.
Personally, I prefer small venues for guitar, so I can hear the breaths and watch the fingering. Definitely do this- it’s like an experience x10 if you can get that far up front.
Being in the front row also means being smashed and trampled by a hoarde of sweaty guys (front row at places where SxDx plays means being on the front perimeter of the ‘pit’...whatever), and not being able to hear for two weeks. But it was worth it.
