How I did it: Even though I have been teaching myself the katakana chart for a fairly long time, I always forgot about the way of writing of certain katakana (especially ne, nu, yu, yo, ...). When I first heard of a certain service (see "Resources, products, and services that helped you") I decided to learn the all the katakana through it on a regular basis :).After being asked over and over again which katakana is which, how they are spelt, and so on,… Read how I did it…

How I did it: I wrote out each sound and character along with a Mnemonic for each one....and actually while I was in the bath I used a wet erase marker and practiced writing from memory on the ledge of the tub, lol....it helped!!!! Just have an old rag handy to wipe it off when ur done.Flashcards seem to work for some but I need more hands on.... Read how I did it…

How I did it: I took a class at uni that was not part of my degree. I held lunchtime sessions with Japanese students in exchange for helping them with their English. Read how I did it…
How I did it: Writing in the subway the alphabet, a i u e o, ka ki ku ke ko...Transcribing random english words to katakana.Reading katakana words.Repeating repeating and repeating, that's the only trick I think, just make yourself used to write and read the symbols. Read how I did it…

Well, have just “learned” hiragana, so on to the one I hate now xD. There’s only one character I’ve picked up and that’s e. That looks like a capital I!
Gonna do the same as hiragana, grab a couple of songs and write them out in katakana. Should be interesting!
Wish me luck!

so I’ve completely learned hiragana a while ago! i love writing song lyrics in all hiragana—but now i know why kanji comes in so much handy! it would’ve saved me a couple hand cramps if i could just write one kanji for an entire word rather than a 5 or even 8 hiragana’s to write on word xD
next to katakana!~ hopefully it’ll be easy, since i heard that actually it’s quite hard compared to hiragana o-O

I just recently taught myself Hiragana and after a bit more practice I’m going to tackle Katakana…I wonder if it will be easier to memorize…Learning Hiragana was so much fun. I enjoy writing in Hiragana…well i’m gonna start learning Katakana by May 1st…
I am studying Japanese and I am learning how to read and write.
I learned Hiragana but I haven’t don’t so much studying on Katakana.
It’s not that I’m lazy, I just haven’t found the time.

I think I will soon reach this goal :). I now have an account with smart.fm and try to work on my katakana knowledge as often as possible. Finally I can remember some of them :D. “Nu”, “ne”, “hi”, ... :D I even can see how certain katakana are written correctly and so on, so … I really recommend having an account there :). I know that it sometimes is difficult to memorize all the katakana and I take one step at a time.
Good luck everyone who wants to reach this goal!! You will certainly reach it :D.
I found learning Katakana a bit of a drag, so I made a little game. If you use gtalk or the chat thingy in gmail, you can try out the game by talking to jappaserver@gmail.com Just say to him ‘start’ and he will start a fun game to help you learn.
Already know hirigana, thanks to my crazy japanese teacher . I know I’m gonna be forced into katakana eventually, but I want to know! learning to read all over again is crazy. I found that getting manga in japanese, and just forcing yourself through it with a letter chart nearby is really helpful, plus, in the comics, the kanji has hirigana in small print! ;)
Working on hiragana before I jump into this. I can tell the diference between the two (of course) but some of the variations are so different from the hiragana. Won’t start it until I think I have mastered hiragana.
