Grow my hair as long as possible

Slowly but surely  — 1 month ago

Went and had my hair cut and coloured today—totally needed it as I had about an inch of roots and I hate looking trashy like that. Anyway, the colour is a wonderfully vibrant Waterhouse red. Had to get about 1/2 an inch taken off to keep it healthy, so I’ve gained about 1/2 an inch since January. This is going to take a while.

My hair used to fall below my breasts…if I bend my arm and lay it across my stomach then my hair reached the crook of my elbow. I’d love to have it that length again…about 6 inches or so longer than it is now (the natural waves make it seem even shorter). If all goes well I should be there by the end of this year.

Long Hair Treatment  — 2 months ago

I went in for my quarterly hair-care appointments at Rapunzel’s (conditioning, trimming, and dusting at the first appointment, and then balancing and coloring a week later) in mid-March 2008.

Once again, the split ends are all-but-gone and the color of the “older” hair matches the “newer” hair from the scalp to the ends. We used my spring/summer color variant (it’s brighter than the fall/winter mix we use, which is nice but not so red).

March 2008: My hair is now 33 and 3/8ths inches long (a net gain of 3/4 of an inch over the past three months after both new growth and trimming) when measured free-flowing. The deep conditioning treatment and the blunt cut make the hair look strong and healthy and the ends look good and thick. smile

i dont want it down to my feet or anything...  — 2 months ago

but It’s already down to my armpits..and im hoping for my lower back. :)

Long Hair Treatment  — 3 months ago

I went in for my quarterly hair-care appointments at Rapunzel’s (conditioning, trimming, and dusting the first day, and then balancing and coloring three days later) in mid-December 2007.

Once again, the split ends are all-but-gone and the color of the “older” hair matches the “newer” hair from the scalp to the ends. We used my autumn/winter red variant (it’s not so bright as the spring/summer mix but still very nice).

December 2007: My hair is still 32 and 5/8ths inches long (no net increase over three months, given new growth and trimming) when measured free-flowing. The deep conditioning treatment and the blunt cut make the hair look strong and healthy and the ends look good and thick. smile

HOW TO GROW YOUR HAIR LONG  — 3 months ago

Well, I have long, red hair down to my butt.

Here is how to do it.

1. IGNORE ALL PEOPLE WHO TELL YOU TO CUT YOUR HAIR
You have to ignore anyone who tells you to cut your hair: your family, your hair stylist, people at work, random people on the street, whatever. A little old lady once gave me this advice: Other girls may tell you to cut it off ‘cause they’re jealous.

2. AVOID HAIR SALONS
Hair stylists will tell you to cut it every 6 weeks. This is ‘cause they are bored and also they need to make money to pay their bills. Just have it cut once or twice a year instead.

3. STOP USING BLOW DRYERS
Let your hair air dry. It helps if you can work your routine so that you are on the bus or having decaf tea in a little coffee shop before work so you don’t show up with wet hair. You can also braid your hair in your car, or the coffee shop restroom, or wherever, right before work to hide the fact that it is still damp.

4. BUY YOUR SHAMPOO IN ORGANIC GROCERY STORES
Vegetarian, organic grocery stores sell natural shampoos that are also not tested on animals. You will be helping the animals and your hair at the same time. I like Nature’s Gate Shampoo. It will make your hair easier to comb so it can grow. I admit that I wash my hair every day so it’s getting to be too dry, but I only washed it every other day when I was growing it out which was better. Most people say once a week is much healthier for your hair. My sister washes hers once a week, and her hair is so shiny and pretty.

I’m not sure what to write here, but I’d like to grow my hair past my waist. I’ve been trying to grow my hair for years and years and years, but it will not grow past my shoulder blades. I don’t know what to do.

Hair is now  — 7 months ago

top of thigh when pulled on – but in reality I am pretty sure there are still two inches to go till it’s official.
Ultimate goal is ‘fingertip’ length, which on me coincidentally is the length which is ‘most desirable’ according to the Golden Section – so there ya go!

I haven’t trimmed properly since Feb ‘07 and don’t intend to till at least May ‘08, but I have snipped a couple times on the rare occasions I have found any splits. My hair is doing fab thanks to the Indian cleansing herbs I wash with instead of shampoo.

Ah, the joy  — 7 months ago

My hair’s not that long yet. It (just) brushes past my shoulders. But! But! But! I have been getting compliments on how good it looks. Har har har. I leave two days in-between washings and gently dry it. I don’t try to bend or stick it to places where it doesn’t want to go (which is a lot considering my hair usually has it’s own ideas of how it should look). So no strings, pins, bows, or anything in my hair. And sometimes it even sticks out on one end just because it feels like it. But it’s shinier and softer than ever before. Even after I had streaks bleached in it, it’s still shiny and glowy. This makes me so happy I can forget about the odd end flopping into my face at inconvenient times. (Think chocolate desert disasters.)
So far this has definitely been worth doing. I can’t believe I’m actually patiently waiting for it to grow! Haha.
