As a political moderate who cares about the poor but who doesn’t believe in “Robin Hood” taxation, I LOVE the Fair Tax proposal.

But there is one “transitional” problem I have.

I recently asked them a question about how to deal with the issue of people who haved saved their entire life paying income tax only to have the law change and then be forced to pay sales tax on the VERY SAME money when they spend it (on a new house).

This is quite effectively double-taxation.

The response I got was that there would be no exemptions for anything and that people should realize there are hidden costs in IRA and Keogh accounts.

This response really turned me off because it was obvious the person was trying to obfuscate the issue for lack of anything resembling a decent response.

Lately I’ve been reading and learning more about the Fair Tax proposal that is before congress. I’m not ready to jump on board yet (there is another, more committed goal to see the bill passed), but I am leaning toward supporting this bill.

As a political moderate, I find this proposal an interesting solution to the completely broken Income Tax.

I welcome critics of this proposal who would like to contribute to the dialog and help educate me as to the vices of the FairTax proposal (if there exist any).
