I have back taxes that are owed from 2000 – 2004. I was on a payment plan with the IRS until the beginning of the year, when I became unemployed. The IRS wants to seize my bank account, though the only money that goes into it is unemployment, and that just barely covers my monthly expenses.
I want to pay it off, but I can’t afford a lawyer to work with me, and I can’t set up a payment plan because I don’t have an income now!
Sigh….

They decided that since I “got a refund” they are applying it to my gigantic bill. But I still owe my monthly payment. *uckers.

So, I just wrote my first check. Exciting and nerve-wracking. Don’t do this yourself. I mean, you know, don’t wait, and all that. 20K is nothing to sneeze at.

I don’t have a TIN handy, so I couldn’t use the online form to set up an installment plan. So I called yesterday, which was Veteran’s Day. On hold now for 20 minutes. God.
edit: finally picked up, everything went fine.
