bartending at home 10 months ago

I won’t lie, I’ve always thought being a bartender was kind of sexy. if I could do it in the comfort of my own home, that would be very nice. I’m not a huge drinker but I like specialty drinks and interesting mixes and things, like seasonal or themed drinks. :) parties parties parties!

Tanq ten and tonic
Vanil and Ginger
Caipirinha
Kir Royal
Blini
Absolut Grand

Num. Num. Num. I love them all so dearly.

I think it is only considerate for your guests to have a wide selection of liquor available. Especially for dinner parties – I like to start with Proseco or Champagne, move to a pre-dinner martini or cocktail, wine (of course) with dinner (each course gets a different pairing), a nicely aged port with desert, and of course, one or two digustivos to help it all settle. I like to go for a sip of limoncello, grappa di mosca or grand marnier.

I heart liquor... 2 years ago

I love having a varied array of liquor available! I attempt to maintain a modest selection of flavors even within similar alcoholic genres.
Jack Daniel’s is my favorite and I always have enough for you, me, and whomever we might have along!

I love my liquor. 3 years ago

However, the toughest part of always having liquor stocked at home is the tonic and soda component. I don’t drink at home often enough to sync well with the opening and unavoidable unfizzification of tonic and soda. I usually open a bottle for a few friends and then the next time I come to the fridge it’s all flat. I wish I had a soda water faucet. That would solve so many problems. And perhaps create new ones.

Another part I don’t like about keeping liquor constantly stocked at home is throwing the bottles away. They’re heavy and don’t really fit well into plastic bags. So, right now, I’ve got at least 3 empty bottles of Makers Mark on my counter… plus many other empty things. When a guest was over the other day I found myself lying and saying that I had recently thrown a big party in order to explain why I have over 15 bottles on my counter. Hm. I wish we lived back in the days when it was okay to throw your trash out your window. Okay, maybe not. But I do love throwing things out my window.

Difficult! 4 years ago

For me, the most difficult part of keeping liquor stocked at home is keeping fresh tonic and soda. Maybe I should invent tiny bottles that only have enough for a single gin and tonic, or a single whiskey soda. That way I wouldn’t have open bottles that, no matter how tightly screwed shut, always lose their bubbles.

Also, I’m out of whiskey. The bottle of empty Crown Royale was thrown out my window last night, but it didn’t break. By morning, foxes had foxed it away.

You never know when you need a hit of Whiskey.

The sign of an alcoholic? 4 years ago

True, this might be giving away more information that I should be sharing in this public forum of goals and aspirations, but keeping four or five bottles of liquor on hand at home does make me incredibly happy. The bottles are so nice, and their flavor so smooth. I love making my own drinks. Anyway, this goes along with my theme that my home should strive to resemble as closely as possible a nice dark and cosy bar (I’m thinking of an Alibi Room-esque bar). I even want those little bar tables if possible. A bartender (that also served as bouncer and dj) would top it off and send me into home life nirvana.
