My wife and I was just starting out with two small children and a lot of hope and expectations. We wanted to buy a home but we couldn’t get a loan because of our low income.
My friend advised me to just build my own house like he did. That’s exactly what we did. It was hard, but very rewarding. The cost of materials to build our small 2100 square foot home was around $60,000. When we finished the home it appraised for $140,000.
The equity helped us improve our lifestyle by giving us the means of getting an education and starting a business.

buy a cheap house in a bad neighbourhood… fix it up… invest in the neighbourhood… be an inspiration to your new neighbours… before you know it you are living in a great house in a great neighbourhood… strange how perception is life.
