We did floating, bobbing, kick off from the side of the pool, and back and forths in the pool just kicking using these floaty things. Glad I signed up for classes!

I have no time to go and learn anything I want to do …. I feel disappointed …
I’ve had a couple of lessons but I’m not good at all. I want to feel comfortable in water.
There are swimming lessons not even a mile from me…

I hate to admit, but I’m a neophyte when it comes to swimming. My kids are proficient at all the strokes (I made sure of it), but I haven’t done it yet. I can float all day long, but I want to be able to nail each stroke. I’m going on a cruise this summer and come hell or high water, I’m not getting on that boat until I can at least do the breast stroke without drowing.
First a little history… I have tried to learn to swim many times, and each time I have been unsuccessful. I have this mental block – I just can’t get comfortable in the water. Two near-drownings will do that to a person. Today, I found on-line a guy in my area that teaches by total immersion method. I don’t know if it will work, but traditional methods have failed, so… I took the first step of e-mailing him about taking lessons. I’ll keep you posted.
i tried to swim laps today. it was very painful, but i think that if i keep at it, then i will eventually get there.
i need to tell myself: THIS WILL COME EVENTUALLY.
my dad was a college swimmer, excelling at every stroke possible. he always tried to teach me when i was younger, but i never wanted to learn, i just wanted to play in the pool. now i’m regretting it. all my siblings took the time to learn, but i never did. now that i’m getting my rear in gear and i want to be more fit and healthy, i wish i knew how to swim!

I signed up for lessons starting this July Can’t wait. Hopefully by the end of summer I will have fulfilled this goal.
Check out the Total Immersion training series of videotapes, etc. Used to be at www.totalimmersion.net; something unrelated was at .com, though maybe by now they own them both. The training makes a ton of sense - it’s all about balance in the water. The actual workshop you can go to is a little hard ass - lots of guy triathletes trying to shave nanoseconds off their time. But you can still learn how to swim well and confidently with this program, even by yourself.
