have the flute, need a teacher 8 months ago

For Christmas of 2007, I must have really been talking about learning to play the flute because my mother, my father, AND my fiance all got me flutes as my big gift. It was pretty hilarious, and they’ve learned to communicate since then. My fiance and I agreed to donate the flute from him to a kid who needed it and I kept the two from my parents since one is for a beginner and the other is a professional model.

I play Clarinet already and I can read music, so I just need someone to help me get started. Unfortunately, I live in a semi-rural area and don’t have time or money to drive 45 miles one way to get to lessons right now. This one is probably going to stay on the back-burner for awhile, but I WILL do it before I die. :) I’ve wanted to play flute since I was 7 or 8.

my flatmate brought me a flute from home which he wasnt using… i found a note chart online and have managed to play a little bit along with cds, but am finding breathing a real problem – can only get the first octave! But there are quite a few flute players around on my course so I’m going to see if I can get a few tips!

So, in order to build up my repitoire of woodwind skills, I’m going to try to learn flute. This entails first buying a decent one, as Ada’s doesn’t work very well, and then practicing a LOT.

hey I’ve got a new flute tutor book following a chat with a very helpful woman in one of our local music shops (music exchange in stockport – dead old fashioned, not intimidating!) – to celebrate I’ve been doing a spot of music theory, its scary how much I don’t know. I think I was taught very badly in the past.

I’ve only got through the lower and middle register – I’m guessing there’s a whole other register waiting for me to murder. Will have to upgrade to another tutorial book – any suggestions?

hmmm... i need to set a point at which I think I've done this 2 years ago

perhaps I could say when I can play most tunes by ear without any nasty noises? seems reasonable… suggestions welcome

beginning flute 3 years ago

about 2/3 of the way through my beginners flute tutor book. Its alright so it is, but I’m finding it less flexible than the clarinet – unfortunately my clarinet playing seems to have regressed to the point where I can’t tell if its me or whether the instrument has been damaged! Dunno where to go next when I finish the flute tutor book…
