oh! a greener president? 4 years ago

well shoot, seems that the preznit is jumping on board with this whole fuel conservation thang. He delivered a rousing speach to the nation, after his 7th trip via private 747 jet to Louisiana and Texas. If you all could take the bus to work, or walk, and switch off household and office appliances when yer done with them, that would make a huge difference.

But don’t worry! Energy waste is an American way of life, if you just let us drill in designated wilderness in Alaska and other places on American territory, like we planned to anyway, we will get through this! Those good, wholesome construction companies, like Haliburton, that are making the new, cleaner, whiter New Orleans should also be allowed to waive minimum wage and some safety laws on their non-local labor too, as we need to get this job DONE. You mustn’t let a little personal greed (like wanting a fair wage) get in the way of this project. We all have to pull together, folks!

Yes, pillage and plunder in the hurricanes’ wake.

From a list I am on:

The Boeing 747 jet engine uses approximately 1 gallon of fuel every second. According to Boeing’s Web site, the 747 burns approximately 5 gallons of fuel per mile.

It is a 4 hour flight one way from Washington D.C. to New
Orleans or about 28,800 gallons of fuel per round trip, for a total of 201,600 gallons at a cost to the American tax payers of $614,880.00 so that one man can view the destruction first hand, SEVEN TIMES.

This does not include fuel for Marine 1, an Apache helicopter which is about 1/3 as fuel efficient as a 747 that is flown separately to Louisiana and Texas so that George Bush can take 1 hour viewing flights over the devastated areas.

If I were to curtail all my trips by car and motorbike, and not drive ever again, it would take me 364 years to save 201,600 gallons of fuel at my current rate of consumption.

Thanks Prez! We’ll do our bit. How about you?

pillage and plunder in katrina's wake 4 years ago

this article investigates the new energy proposals in congress.

Some good news, a coalition of 10 Republicans and eight Democrats introduced a House bill calling for an eight-mile-per-gallon increase in the average fuel economy of automakers’ fleets in 10 years—from the current 25 mpg to 33, but this could easily be rejected (it was proposed earlier this year).

But also, it appears that they are determined to allow drilling in those nature reserves, esp Arctic. A new budget reconcilliation bill will be put to the house by Oct 26th, and only 51 votes will be needed because reconciliation bills are exempt from filibusters.

It’s amazing how blatantly the administration is taking advantage of yet another national disaster to fast-track bad policy, from dismantling social security, minimum wage deregulation, environmental effects deregulation, while still providing the kickbacks to their buddies in Haliburton and the oil industry. Katrina is being used to push the GOP agenda. Just as 9-11 was.

Interesting article, about the viable alternatives to the energy policy of the dinosaurs, by the dinosaurs, and for the dinosaurs that was passed on April 21.

    save power 4 years ago

As you might know (or soon will) the US is attempting to postpone a power crisis that is inevitable, by seizing control of sources of oil under the pretense of humanitarian and “pre-emptive defence” grounds. The US is fundamentally tied to the world economy, and The world economy is dependent on oil. Therefore it stands to reason that the US elite wants to control the oil.

The “Free Market” concerns itself with the forces of supply and demand. The value of a certain thing is pegged at the demand for it in relation to the supply.

There are two ways that you can improve the situation for the consumer, ie the demand:

    • Keep the current demand, and increase the supply (by invading various countries or drilling in the last few national nature reserves)
    • Find ways to decrease the demand by being more efficient and mindful.

Please, for the children, for America’s future, take the bus. Stay home. Buy local produce. Switch off the light. Reduce the demand.

Reduce the demand, and bring our troops home.
