Stop being ashamed of being South African

Those idiots have given me another reason to be ashamed of being South African. The government decided to not bother building any more power plants 10 years ago. The country has gone through huge growth since then. There have been huge power outages over the last few weeks as a result of this.

The power goes off for about 2 hours every day to compensate for the huge demand. Driving to work is a nightmare because all the traffic lights are out. A lot of businesses have closed down because they can’t run without electricity.

Today I heard the worst news. The mines were told to shut down because they couldn’t be guaranteed a reliable supply of electricity. Mining is the backbone of the South African economy. Telling the mines to shut down is like telling half the economy to shut down.

South Africa is starting to look more and more like Zimbabwe every day. It is just amazing how those apes in the government have managed to screw things up.

I have noticed how people from countries that are thought of as better than other countries, don’t really care much about the opinions of people from the lesser countries.

I am guilty of this as well. I sometimes get emails from countries like Uganda and Angola. I don’t value their opinions much when they tell me how wonderful my website is. If I get an email from someone from the United States or UK then I am very happy if they like my website.

Americans are very guilty of this since there aren’t a lot of countries that can compete with the greatness of the United States.

People from other countries not respecting my opinion is one of the things that makes me ashamed of being South African.

My trip to Europe has shown me that it’s true what they say about Europeans – They are all carbon copies of each other without any very unique personality traits. They are also all pushovers, even compared with me. There is way more variety here in South Africa.

The other people I met on my trip found it very interesting that I was from South Africa and wanted to know all about it.

I had a thing called “Live and work in South Africa” which I had said was not worth it. I have removed that from my list. I think it was a good start to being less ashamed of being South African.
