I live in New Mexico right now, and have for several years. This place isn’t so spatacular to put it mildly. The weather can never make up it’s mind, and the scenery consists of sand, rocks and flatlands of tumble weeds and cattle, which most parts of the state smell like most of the year. If you have the time and money, I would spend both elsewhere.
I lived in NM for years and I still love to go back. I miss the food. I miss the desert. I miss the indians. I miss the relaxed pace of NM life. I miss Chaco Canyon. I miss the Jemez hot springs. I miss the hundreds of miles of remote dirt roads.
Go! You will love New Mexico and you will miss it when you leave!
Took a week long trip to New Mexico. Albuquerque was kind of a bust as I went to see the hot air balloon festival. It rained every day I was there, which cancelled the much-anticipated hot air balloon ride I had planned to take. The rest of the week was very relaxing. I spent it all in Taos, Santa Fe, and Los Alamos.
I spent a week in New Mexico (Albuquerque -> Santa Fe -> Taos) last year with my college roommate. It was absolutely wonderful. You feel as if you have entered a differnt country the moment you have stepped off the plane. The people are genuine, incredibly hospitable and kind-hearted.
