Well…Never Been There Befor. But I Would Glad to Live in Netherlands and Start New Life there. As I Have Some Family Who Lives There and What People told me about it If I get That Chance I Would Do it …
I’d like to move to Holland some day… but I already moved to Belgium, so now I’m too close to not to do it :)
I’m half dutch, half american, but, except some high school in zwijndrecht, and some time lived in rotterdam, i’ve spent my whole life in the us..
time to use that second passport!
wel actually I still live in holland, and it’s really not worth it, the gouvernment sucks, there is no nature (and when you think you’ve found, you’re definitly stoned,
though, the weed is good
I love the Dutch people. I love the Dutch language and culture. Their history is fascinating, and their social awareness is inspiring.
I lived in a village outside Rotterdam for nearly a year—Rhoon. It was not a vacation; it was day-to-day living, and while that was not as lovely as a summer-roll-in-the-grass-by-the-Maas, it was wonderful in that it gave me hope that as the world becomes more populated, we can live in relative harmony. The key is sensitivity to social dynamics.
What scares me is that is seems to me that the Dutch open-mindedness is threatening to overtake the Dutch culture with a sad homogeny. I would love to see a standard set that protects Dutch culture, one that is not completely vested in tolerance for other cultures at the expense of the Dutch people. Of course, The Netherlands has prided itself on tolerance and acceptance of other cultures, but I hope the Dutch will protect what they have from greedy and selfish people who threaten the very ideals of tolerance or who exploit their own heritage or, any one else’s, for money.
Sure, there were those in Dutch history who exploited other countries and cultures (slave trade), but every country has something to feel shame about. For the most part, The Netherlands today is full of great minds and open hearts. I hope the people will hold on to the beautiful aspects of their history like the river and sea cultures, the farmers, the landscapes, the architecture, the philosophy, the art, the mills….
I love The Netherlands!
