Sami is being exciting.
How I did it: I'm still paying off the debts, but it's ok with me because every penny I pay off I know was a penny that was stretched to the fullest extent in Uganda this summer to help someone. And I'd do it again. I lived in the village with a few other volunteers and saw what the people needed, and helped them get it. I gave through education. I helped teach children with disabilities physical therapy, helped with teacher training… Read how I did it…

How I did it: I applied for a working visa through SWAP, and then left for Ireland. All I really had to do was get the documents in order, I gave them to Travelcuts, and a month later I got my working visa. I found a job and a place to live when I got there. Read how I did it…
How I did it: My husband is in the military and he got stationed there right before we got married... because we hated the seperation we decided to get married and 8 months later (Army is SLOW on paperwork!) I moved with him. It was VERY exciting and one of a kind experience! Read how I did it…
How I did it: After college, I wasn't very clean on what I wanted to do next with my life. I decided to go abroad to England while I figured out what to do.Because of an Irish grandparent, it turned out that I could actually get an Irish passport and live and work anywhere in the European Union. One application form from the Irish consulate and one month later I got my passport and was off. It's been six years since I moved and it's been one… Read how I did it…

Leaving the West: some people tried to fully recreate an American living room in their homes, others were happy with used Moroccan furniture.. It’s worth it to trade much anxiety for simple comfort.. Found a teaching job before I first left in 2005.. North Africa had been calling me for many years, which more than compensated for much hassle: being cheated often, once getting food poisoning, being mistaken for a) French b) a tourist c) fluently Arabic d) all of the above.. But finding the right place closes the question.. It’s all about the zellij.

I have some questions I’d like to ask about achieving this goal, by people who have already done so (I write it as an entry, because there is a character limitation in the ‘ask for advice in meeting this goal’ part.)
I am hoping to move to Norway from England next year, to live with my boyfriend (he is Norwegian and already living there). I currently have two jobs, so I am trying to save as much as possible before I go.
I’m hoping that I’ll be able to find a job quite soon after moving there, although it’ll have to be something quite simple, as the work I do already is unqualified (although I do have qualifications, but in something not all that easy to find a career in) and I know only basic words and phrases in the language, although I am studying and learning, and hope to take classes once I am there.
My first question is, has anyone else been in this situation, and how easy/difficult was it to find a job?
Also, I wondered what kind of things I’d need to do before leaving? For example, notifying different people/places of an address change, and other such important information and preparations. I am quite naive and unknowledgable in such matters! :/
- study /work abroad
- become an expat
- short term / migrate
I would like to experience living independently. To get out of my comfort zone and start from scratch. I look forward to making new friends and creating new networks. I anticipate blood, sweat and a lot of tears (and prayers!). BRING IT ON!
I consulted a Feng Shui master a few months back and he advised me to stay in warm regions for me to be successful in my career. He suggested, Middle East, South Africa and Australia. Singapore is okay too. I guess so would South America (yay!) Although, this limitation kind of blows because Paris is off the list. Should I even listen to his advice?
I’m still doing this!!!!! I’ve been living abroad (Vietnam, Thailand, and Taiwan) for the past year or so. Living abroad changes you, it changes your outlook on life. It made me more independent, made me a more patient person, made me see that humans across cultures have morre in common than not, let me meet some of my best friends in the world. Having a job and volunteering abroad and travelling through these places has changed my life.
Just do it!

My dream is to live in Mexico or Spain and teach english. Not just for a few years… I want to have a family abroad and live there my whole life.
Want to have a traval in Japan. Need time and money. Already started saving.
I’ve lived abroad in the Philippines but that doesn’t really count since it was such a young age where my memories are minimal. Most recently, I stayed there for only four months so it was more like a long trip.
I’d like to really live abroad for at least 6 months. The question is…where?
We’re thinking about staying in Macedonia for a few months after getting married. I figure now is the time to do it.

“I have a question about preparations before moving abroad and getting a job once there. I've asked in more detail in an entry, as there is a character limitation here. I'd be very grateful if anyone could help me. Thank you in advance.”
